Agreed. I used to buy many Rolex Daytonas, limited edition panerai and APs but somehow just naturally gravitated towards keeping mostly Pateks. Now I only have the stainless Daytonas and a few AP and rest all Pateks. I think quality, the fun of play with the complication, looks, exclusivity all had to do with my passion for Pateks. I think there are other brands that make great pieces and arguably better quality than Pateks but i remain a PP fan. (Example would be Alange ‘s world time is probably better made than PP worldtime. ). Just like a 720 may be faster than the pista, if I can’t have both, I would pick Ferrari. No logic to this, just all personal preference.
I can’t decide if I really dislike the “Patek Philippe” being in the lower half of the face Pic: Patek Image Unavailable, Please Login
I like 5990. But I had a 5146 (also a great reference) which has PP below sea level. Never got use to it. Balance just seemed off when glancing down at the dial when on the wrist.
I agree, it seems more appropriate to have it up above. I would be willing to spend some time studying this and report back if you want to send it to me for analysis. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
If you guys want, I'll take those awful/ugly watches with the Patek logo on the bottom off your hands, I'll even pay for shipping!
I’d follow your first instinct. If at first you don’t love it, move on. Good design is good design. You obviously have an appreciation for good design, this has been established. Good design is not an acquired taste. It’s either good or not based on your subjective feelings. I should also add that while I would prefer the name above, below is also ok. I have a 5726 I wear daily and while not doing anything extreme I don’t baby it either...what is up with all the scratches these Nautilus watches show off?! I wore a Rolex explorer II 24/7, and to gym/beach/etc for ~20 years without anywhere near the scratches.
The new Patek Philippe Chronograph 5172G is a stunner. https://monochrome-watches.com/patek-philippe-chronograph-5172g-baselworld-2019-price/
Saw this yesterday - new PP model for 2019: New 5172 G would be my pick. https://www.patek.com/en/collection/new-models-2019
