I think it would be interesting to see what this same Dino would do in Scottsdale but with a better presentation, correct tool kit and manual set.

Any Ferrari without a manual clutch gearbox is a dealbreaker for me.

 

Interesting I thought that the car hammered at $225,000.

 

On a related note, are Southeby's et al, with their high fees still the best place to sell a collectible car? Has BaT done what ebay and auto trader couldn't and created a viable online marketplace for selling collectible cars? It sure seems to be trending that way and if an online auctioneer comes up with a way to virtually inspect cars, the traditional auction houses may be in trouble.

 

I would be tempted to use BAT for most cars as the auction house fees seem too high to me plus you have the transportation/handling costs. A million plus car might do better at auction but then again the fees would be a consideration. I thought BAT caps the fee at $5K. They may need to iron out a few things at BAT but I think they are on the right track. If I were to bid on an expensive car I would take the time to go see it first hand.

 

I really like the real time conversations with knowledgeable enthusiasts that go on BaT that helps educate the buyer and if the seller has done their homework, supports their claims. I also like the grassroots gentleman’s approach to the auction and giving everyone fair time to bid and rebid until it’s all done. Not a reactive quick process. Giving one weeks to research and bid. I also agree, nothing replaces seeing a car in person.

Major auction houses don't allow much of an inspection, and certainly believe in caveat emptor when presenting a car. BaT cars are kept honest (a bit) because of the comments. But what happens when BaT implements virtual inspections? It can't be that far off: an iPhone, a BaT seller app, and a video hosting service.

 

BAT don’t have an open bar during the auction....

That's how them auctions often work.

 

I like the work Symbolic out in to the history of the car - their presentation and knowledge will probably sell the car. I think they make some dough on it.

 

Denny Schue mentioned it somewhere in the Register but not all wheels had "Dino" script on the faces. In 1995 I bought a set without "Dino" script from Tom S in San Clemente and have since had them restored with my others

Bill did a thorough job sorting through history, documentation and the Dino itself.

It has found a new home in Houston.

yes where someone can take time do a PPI if they like and avoid the pressure and risk of buying at an auction..
Auctions are great but buyers really have to accept what they get.....works very well for sellers in most cases
