I don't know a lot about planes, but my older friend has a Yak 53 (he says they did not make many, I'll take his word?). He would like to find it a new home, as he's in his late 70's. It has a German, 3-blade prop. and is located in Alabama with him at his hanger.

If anyone is interested, happy to put you two in touch, this is strictly a favor.

    Thanks!

As former aircraft owner this one caught my eye - not being familiar with the various models I had to resort to a search:

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Jump to navigationJump to search
    Yakovlev Yak-53
    Role
    Aerobatic trainer
    National origin USSR
    Manufacturer Yakovlev
    First flight 1982
    Number built 1
    Developed from Yak-52
The Yakovlev Yak-53 was a single seat aerobatic trainer aircraft produced in the USSR during 1981/2. Only prototypes were produced.[1]

    Development[edit]
The prototype Yak-53 was derived from the Yak-52, differing in being a single seater designed as an aerobatic trainer. The front cockpit was deleted and the canopy modified to suit. The cockpit used the flying controls of the Yak-50 without the spring loading of the Yak-52, and the use of the undercarriage and tankage of the prototype Yak-52 to save weight, making the Yak-53 100 kg (220 lb) lighter than the Yak-52.[1] " END

Since this is a single prototype it probably has an EXPERMNTAL type certificate and the ad should include that plus about 10 other points of information.
Suggest you post this in the AviatorChat forum below and include photos and airframe, engine, and prop times. You would have a better chance of helping your friend.

He did say it was the only made. But I wasn’t sure if that was fact or not (again, not an aviator here so, be kind). But thank you for the post. I’ll put one down in that section too. Maybe I can send a photographer by his hanger to get good photos and engine info etc.

    Thanks!

I geeked on this a little yesterday. I think the videos I found must have been a different yak model that were 2 seaters, even though the vids said it was Yak-53. They can fly slow enough to fly sliding-canopy open from one of the vids I watched. How cool would that be? This sure looks like the kind of toy I would love to tinker with if I was in one of those flyover states with lots of room!

Cool plane. GLWS. I know a guy with a couple of Yaks. They are acrobatic planes so they can pretty much do things you can't. As I recall they are rated for something like 5Gs negative and 7Gs positive. He loves flying his and participates in a dog fighting club.

I was crewing on a p51 Precious Metal at the Reno air races about 25 years ago and there was this one Yak with a big twin row radial up front IIRC it was called mr awesome or some such . Probably a relative to this aircraft. That weird oddball kicked some serious butt. I still know a few people in that circle. What do you want for it ?

Hey David. No clue what he's thinking price wise. I was/am merely trying to be the conduit to help him get some conversations about it, to help find a buyer. I know, that's a lame answer, so I will try to call this week and get some more details from him.

Long time friend of Alex, have walked by that Yak a few times. Never caught my eye as that's not my thing. He's a great guy, has had many, many - did I say many yet? - incredibly interesting cars over the years.

I live about 25 minutes away on 'that lake' nearby and am happy to meet up if that fits into the plan at all. I've sold out of the F cars, but have others. (Plus, he still has the E type I sold him 30+ years ago.) Either way, enjoy your visit!

Adams. I haven’t been down there since 2014, but it’s always fun to visit with Alex. The gent in Selma I bought my Mondial from introduced me, but I’d actually found Alex before, I just didn’t put 2 and 2 together, from an older Ferrari Owners club going back to when he owned long nose 275 #08087. I ended up buying a 365GT block from Alex that trip, that was essentially a door stop lol
