How many wins this season?
I may change mine downward, with Josh Gordon who-knows-where, and they traded Corey Coleman.... I kinda forgot about that.
I'll be contrarian, 2! Rookie QB. Gordon uncertain. Tyrod - not a top tier QB. And, I've neve had much faith in Hue Jackson as a coach. They'll get better, but for the next coach...T
From a Clevelander's point of view, the buzz in town in strong, but realistic. I've heard the buzz in Vegas too and the money going on the Browns as a complete shock to sports books; they're an incredibly popular team to bet on this year. Cleveland loves its Browns, and as much as LeBron meant, every Clevelander will tell you the Browns were, are and ever will be Cleveland's #1 team, even in the crappy years. It is a sleeping giant when it comes to football fandom, it's not uncommon to draw 10k just for high school games around here. Not surprising given they invented the game of football just down the road in Canton. As much as people love Baker Mayfield in town, they're willing to be patient. The quantity of quarterbacks this team has gone through is amazing since 1999, so they're ok with waiting. Fans are not excited per se about starting QB Tyrod Taylor, but respect his work ethic as shown in Hard Knocks and are ok with him starting. They know he's a stop gap QB on a 1 year contract with something to prove and hope that his work ethic, attitude and game knowledge will spill onto Baker for next season. Nobody here thinks he will be here beyond this year. The most negativity so far this pre season has been around Hugh Jackson, most believe he has to keep the losses around 9 or 10 at most this season to keep his job. The overwhelming majority believe offensive coordinator Todd Haley will be his replacement. The biggest positive so far has been the defense, most believe we'll be in the top 1/3 of defenses in the NFL which should keep us in games, but the inability to score might leave us a few points short nearly every game. While there is patience this year, if the losses pile up early, the calm is likely thrown out the window. The Browns have a tough schedule this year and if they start off say 1 and 5 I'm not sure how Hugh can survive, and with a poor record early, it will be hard to argue the point of keeping Tyrod in there when any playoff hope is dashed after week 5. Clevelanders are experts at how to lose in sports, we know every angle, we know every mistake, we know every saying a coach/GM makes that comes back to burn them, because we've see the same mistakes being made over and over again, but there is a general sense that we finally got things right this year, most love GM John Dorsey, we also know who's in line if Hugh goes and we feel confident we got a bright future with Baker, so for a first time in a long time, we think were relevant in the NFL with a good future and no longer a team chalked up for an easy win. It's hard to give a number with your home team as so many people here are overly optimistic, if everything goes right many are saying 7 to 9 wins, if they're are hiccups in the road (which are normal around here) people are saying 5.
I said 8 - back when they had both Corey Coleman AND Josh Gordon. I know I have to stick by my '8', but had I known they would dump both of those guys, I would have said 3, MAYBE 4.
5-7-1 with three to go, @Den, Cincy and @Balt..... They beat Balt in Clv in OT, I kinda don't expect that to happen again, not IN Baltimore...
I expected Cleveland to be better. I also expected the Chicago Bears to be better. One team has, more or less met those expectations while another has exceeded them.
7-7-1 and playing a team on the road that needs a win to lock up the division and get into the playoffs.
If they finish ahead of the Dolphins - a real possibility - I'll offer my congratulations, and then I'll puke.
They've played much better than I expected. Getting rid of Jackson was a major plus for the Browns...T
7-7-1 LOL I wonder where they would be if Josh Gordon would have stayed there - AND not get suspended? Seems to me they are super-weak at the WR position.
Agree, but unlike last few drafts, they don't go in being weak at a dozen different positions. So, they can target and focus...T
