I noticed this new Ferrari battery tender on many of the new cars at the dealership recently (sorry for the poor color rendition).

It looks like it just has a single light and a magnetic attachment.

Does anyone know who makes it and if its replacing the CTEK tenders.

Yes, that's neat and I think there's probably a couple of ways to do it.

My guess is his garage installed the magnetic port from a CaliT trunk onto the lid for the older Cali's charging portal where the older Cali's charging socket is located and then wired the magnetic port to a CTEK charging plug for the port, and just plugged the magnetic port into the older charging port. It's basically an conversion adapter setup wired together using the lid.

You then buy the magnetic charging adapter from CTEK on eBay, it's apparently called an "FA1" adapter, apparently now also used on Bentleys, Maybach and AMs. It's pricey though.

Actually, the benefits of the magnetic attachment become limited when you have the port INSIDE the car. It's better to set it up OUTSIDE the car, maybe near where the keyhole is on the trunk lid. That way, just like with the CaliT, you can use the charger without having to open and close the trunk, twice. Maybe it's too tight a fit or too difficult to wire.

I actually prefer the original plug, because it makes a very unmistakable connection whereas the magnetic one might come off when you tug on the cable, like when you close the trunk lid.

    Hi,

Actually you can can buy the plugs from RS components for the California https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/7080450/
The MagCode plug and sockets are also available https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-MagCode-12v-15Amp-Trickle-Charger-Connectors-Magnetic-Kit-Car-Motorcycle-/232293492107
The only thing you need to do is to wire in a relay as the California with not start when being charged with is good idea as my DB9 did not, with the relay installed just plus the original socket in and install a MagCode socket where ever you like!!!
It was a little tight to fit under the lip on the boot lid but save taking the panel off in the boot you can now just clip it on, the magnetic is strong and does not pull off easily but well worth upgrade in my book

Thanks for the helpful tips and links Mike. It looks like they have good prices for these items on eBay UK.

I'm happy to know your upgrade has worked out well for you. While I'm quite picky in some areas, I am quite "easy-going" in others so I actually just leave the charging porthole permanently open  in my car. However, if decide to "spruce up" the trunk I will look into your suggestions.
