Its always rather frustrating that the hood release, unlike my CS, needs the ignition key inserted before you it will release elecronically, I mentioned this to my OEM dealer and he noted that you can just lean in the car and pull the manual release under the dash, that helps !

Where is the manual release for the hood? I know where there is one for the glove box.

I am in the USA but my 2007 hood release does not need the key in or on, just push the toggle and the front hood pops up enough to reach under the front of the hood and move the release latch to open the front hood. Gas cap cover needs the key in the on position to release or you can raise the engine cover and pull the gas cover release cable.

Yep can confirm the above at least in the US. Frunk doesn't need the key but the gas door does. I think Ferrari did that to just play with us when our ego's get too big at the gas station hitting that switch for the gas door about to start strutin out like a bad...damnit dag blasted @#%#$% ...followed by re-inserting the key, switching the ignition back on, hitting the switch and remembering you're really not a badas$ afterall.

I’m in the US and my 2006 430 needs the ignition on to open the frunk using the toggle. It could be because it’s a spider.

2008 Coupe does not need ignition on. There doesn’t seem to be a logical pattern here.?.?

My 2006 coupe doesn’t need the key to open either the bonnet or the engine cover. I just need to press/pull the corresponding button/lever (i.e. not the emergency cords). I only need the key for the gas lid and glovebox.

It seems odd to me that I can open the engine cover and pull the emergency cord to open the gas lid but I can’t just press the button to do the same thing. Same thing for pulling the emergency cord to open the glovebox. I know they’re present for emergency use but it seems to defeat any security reasons for requiring the key.

So, a thief/vandal/valet is given slightly easier access to the engine and contents of the bonnet than access to the fuel tank and glovebox? I’m very new to Ferrari and still trying to understand some of the differences. Having fun learning though.

Is yours a spider? it makes sense to have a key required on a vert! My Saab 9-3 Viggen vert and Range Rover Evoque ( also a vert ) require the key ON think about it ! otherwise, w/ the top down miscreants could steal your stuff! ( yes they could use the emergency release but that would set off the alarm on the bonnet ( hood ) of the RR and the Saab and the frunk of the F430 !

09 scud doesn’t need ignition for frunk but does for gas cap. Maybe some guy at the plant was having a bit too much vino on that day.

Cheers, there seems to be a manual back up for all the electric releases. Maybe Ferrari were expecting reliability issues??? :D

It's more for those times when the battery is disconnected or dead.
