I recently came into contact with a guy who shared a picture of a photo album in a group, which shows a Ferrari 250 GT Boano seemingly abandoned in Venezuela. The photos were taken in 1987, and the only info he has is that the owner told him it was an ex-racer that was abandoned there, and he had it up for sale for $35k.

Does anyone know its chassis number, or where it is today?[IMG]

Nope, this must be 0687GT when owned by Joe Harth.

If the photos in post #1 were taken in 1987 and if they show 0687 GT as suggested in post #4, then here is a photo showing 0687 GT just one year later, in 1988, in Venezuela.
    Hard to imagine.

    Yes, I do.

Indeed, the 250 GT Boanao was Joe Harth's car as he brought it to the U.S. in that condition. The story went that it was "jungle find" with snakes living in it when it was uncovered.

I worked for Ed Waterman at Motorcar Gallery at the time (must have been around 2006-07) when the car
arrived from Venezuela via Panama in a container and in really rough shape.

Ed sold the car to Tom Shaughnessy who was going to set about restoring the car. Last I saw Shaughnessy
had it on display at one of the Monterrey Weekend events (likely Concorso Italiano). I would reach out
to Shaughnessy as he either still has the car or would likely know its current whereabouts.

I think you confuse with 0529GT, which is easy to understand as it did look pretty much the same and was also a Joe Harth car.

Either way, Joe Harth's cars usually end up going through Ed Waterman one way or
    another.

Pretty certain that's the Boano though, I dealt with the car off loading from container, in storage
and ultimately when it went to California.

The car we had was 1956 250 GT Boano #0529.

Here is a link to my images of the car on Barchetta.cc. as it arrived and images
by Peter Singhof how it appeared at Cavallino in 2015.

    Quite a transformation.

The way the story went, Ferrari was happy to sell their cars to South American countries a
and did so quite a lot. The problem became when the cars needed service or parts, they
were nearly impossible to source and even if you could find parts, finding someone to
put them on was another issue entirely.

So, many owners simply rolled their cars into the jungle to sit only to be uncovered
forty years later. This wasn't the only car we received from Venezuela during this
    period.

...or were converted to simple -and cheap- US-V8-power!
South America -and in particular Brazil and Venezuela- are the "Black Holes" for all historians. No proper photo archive from (period) newspapers and/or magazines is/are existing. And if you find a photo -most on the IT- then these are quite fuzzy and terrible quality.
The current desperate situation in Venezuela doesn`t help either....

    Interesting wording.
You may want to post a current photo of the engine number.

The real question is, why does it have a modified back in the first place. Is it an original feature ?
