    Tim,

Lovely lovely car, so happy you stayed with stocks colors, would have been criminal to repaint in a different color.

Thanks, Phil. If I'm not mistaken I think you were one of the guys who "encouraged" me not to change the color when I first posted on Rennlist back in March 2014. There were several guys who chimed in to help me from making such a foolish decision. I didn't have any experience with 930s back in 2014 so I didn't comprehend what a great/unique color combination I had purchased. Truth be told, it's not the combo I would naturally gravitate towards, however, now that it's been restored on my 930 I wouldn't change a thing.

It would be worthwhile to spend the time and money to restore this ’79 930 Turbo back to Petrol Blue w/ blue interior. Could be 1 of 1 in this color combination and very unfortunate that it received so many mods (even the speedo is swapped - so common for any year 930).

Petrol blue is a stunning color - I was admiring another ’79 930 in Petrol blue in Idaho in the early 1990s.

I previously owned and sold that car... I will say the fact it was Petrol Blue at one point is the best thing it had going for it.

I can say that my 930 HAD this very shroud as well.

It had been cut by a previous mechanic but it was still probably half the size of the one in the last picture.

Then my current mechanic cut it almost entirely away.

I can say I believe this to be factory.

The only option than I can think of that my RoW 79 has that others would not have had and could explain the mysterious shroud is “options for cold weather”.

That's cool...too bad a previous mechanic cut half of yours away.

Some talk earlier in this thread about the difference between the early porsche made 930 calipers and the later brembo made 930 calipers.

The first five pictures are of the early porsche made calipers.

The last five pictures are of the brembo made calipers.

I believe the brembo made calipers began from the 1984 model year 930.

There are differences between the porsche made calipers and the brembo made calipers.

I opened up the other week (out of the euro 79 930). Not likely to use them so have stored away in the shed with othe porsche related tools/accessories, were loose in the front with the toolkit.

I still have the second assembly (photo below from original post) sitting in a box if anyone is interested.

Interesting to see these early 3.3s seem to have a disproportionate amount of neglect vs both the earlier 3.0s and later 3.3s.

A condition 1 78/79 930 is quite a rare thing. I’m of the opinion the world over there cannot be more than a dozen condition 1 78/79 3.3s in existence.

The question remains what purpose this shield served on early 3.3s.. Why it disappeared on later 3.3s..
