I've noticed in a few places that these rubbers circled in the picture have ripped or ruptured. I'm guessing it's due to age and heat of the engine over the years. I was thinking of wrapping electrical tape to cover them or if anyone else has a solution?

    Electric rubbers? Sounds painful! :D

I've had a few like that, and wrapping them with electrical tape is exactly what I did.

You can get replacement boots (eBay: "automobile electrical connector boots"):

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-5-6-Way-Small-Electrical-Connector-Rubber-Boot-Seal-Waterproof-Car-Boat/263885329375?epid=14022751099&hash=item3d70ca93df:g:kbsAAOSw615bdZ3t:rk:3:pf:1

But the rub is how do you pull them over the wire. You'd have to take off the end connector at the light, remove the metal contacts and then pull them over the new rubber boot. I'd then snip off the old boot afterward.

I just put electrical tape on it for now... :)

The cloth electrical tape is supposed to be better for high heat but it usually doesn't stick as well. It also looks more like oem.

My car sees so little moisture, I don’t really worry about it.

Not hard at all. Anyone familiar with the Dave Helms/Scuderia Rampante gold connector kit is familiar with the process. The trick is obtaining the correct pin removal tool for each type of plug. You take a picture first, of the wire color locations in the plug, then release each pin from the plug. Swap new boot for old, then simply reinstall the pins the the correct location and orientation. As long as you have the appropriate tool for each style plug, it is a few minute process. Just take pictures and take your time.

I've gone for the cloth electrical tape option, arrived through the post earlier this week and hoping to tackle the problem this weekend. I think the cloth tape will give a OEM look and i'm s*** with electrics and don't fancy dismantling. even with pictures i'd find a way to mess up haha.

Many thanks for all the tips guys.

Go with High heat silicon tape wrap, it heats up fuses together and will last a long time.
Stuff I used is below, takes you an hour

Boom. Heat for the win. I think heat will help regular electrical tape too.

In my experience, heat is bad for black electrical tape. The heat causes the adhesive to turn gooey, it releases and unwinds and you have a sticky mess, as the adhesive has transferred to the back of the tape it overlaps. So both sides of the tape of this gooey adhesive mess

Liquid electrical tape is another option

Right, gotcha. I've seen this too. I guess moderate heat, meaning room temperature, but that's about it. Go for the repair tape or shrink tubing.

My plan when I start getting failures (which seems inevitable) I will seek out silicone replacements if available. Otherwise I will simply source more oem ones (not from the dealer ;) lol), which will reset the clock and should be good for another 10+ years. That is what I did on my F355 spider, I started replacing them with oem...then got silicone replacements as part of the gold connector kit from Dave Helms. With those, one and done.

I've covered a couple of the rear lights in my cloth electrical tape as they were ripped so this is going to be my testing point for a while to see if the heat causes them to turn gooey. If they do i will pull the tape off and try another of the above posts products.
