I don't think that BJ verifies anything. All on the bidders to to their homework. I spent over $30k on issues after getting the car back home from auction. I blame myself for being a little naive, but the auction setting does not help.

How does one do their homework on a car before it goes to BJ auction? Other than doing the typical Google VIN. The problem is that there are never any service records available on their website for each particular car that is about to be auctioned.

At the Barrett Jackson Las Vegas where I purchased my TR, the owner had left all the service records in the property room. They would not give me access until after winning the auction. So to your point, homework is very limited unless the owner was there to talk to.

When factoring my bid, I assumed the cost of a major and some costs for other repairs. In reality, I quickly outpaced my estimates and did not realize how hard it was to source parts.

In most cases it is buying what is behind door #3.

The big dollar cars bought by serious bidders are typically well researched well before the auction. The word is spread before the auction by owner or his agents to be sure interested parties know and a lot of information is provided. The normal run of the mill cars are a real crap shoot. I have seen real junk and some nice cars.

Ridge55 is correct. Sourcing of parts for these cars can be quite difficult. I’ve heard that from several sources. Just one more thing holding TR prices back.

Sourcing of parts for any Ferrari ever for the company's entire history has been difficult. TR is no worse than any of its age or older.

That is one thing that not having any more or less effect on this model than any other.

A few years ago it was "you can buy them all day long for $45,000" when we all knew the market was north of 60 for cars that ran. I never understood the real need on the part of some to do that. Mental health professionals must have a clinical term for it.

Sourcing parts can be a challenge. That said however, it has never been a problem for me. Relatively speaking. There are a lot of these cars out there to part out.

My biggest challenges have been OEM style nylocs, hoses and the stupid ‘coin holder’ from the console. I have never had a major repair - so those parts may be more problematic.

The electronics are relatively simple and should be available for many years to come. Thirty years from now, I’d bet they will still be available. Try that for a a 458.

No bearing on the overall market value on these cars.

Agree. Oem parts may become hard to source but the beauty of the TR is that its rather simple. Those who take their car to the dealer for all services may find it too expensive over time. The rest of us will be fine.

Explode- I thought I have made it very clear ( in several posts ) that I am no longer in the TR market. I literally have no vested interest in these cars going up or down in price. Let me a reiterate that..... I truly do NOT care if TR prices go up or down. Have I made myself clear? Would you like me to say it again ????
To think that a lack of parts doesn’t hold back prices on particular cars is naïve. I didn’t say that lacking of parts is dropping the prices of TR’s.
I said it is holding it back. “Holding it back” means that a car’s price could actually be higher than current market prices because of the lack of parts. If you were wise enough you would realize that I am implying that the price of these cars could actually be higher. That goes for ALL cars. Not just TR’s.
Your lack of impartiality is nauseating. Dude, you have to get over yourself. Really. ... get over yourself.
No need for your snarky comments ( dude , I thought you were rich???. Not really sure what your ‘value ad’ is in a comment like that. ).
I would suggest you either find something positive to say or perhaps just know when to bow out of a conversation. Your “need” to comment on every post is completely unnecessary.
And, hey, let me say it one more time… I am no longer in the TR market :)
Now back to our scheduled programming.

This is the first year in a while where I won't make it to Scottsdale for the auctions but I am not too impressed with BJ after my experience there last year. I had a prominent buyer reach out to me from a mutual friend to inspect a 1989 930 slantnose he was interested in bidding on. So I locate the car and start to inspect the undercarriage (without touching the car) and was promptly interrupted by several security and BJ personnel telling me I was not allowed to do so. After some back and forth, and a telephone conversation with the prospective buyer they allowed me to continue but it left a very sour taste in my mouth.

If its a high profile car a great deal of advanced due diligence can be done but for more ordinary offerings it can be a shark infested pool. Besides, being in this business I know of far too much shill bidding gong on at the big venues.
