I was shocked at the front view, has the proboscis nose (inspired by the Norval whale) coming back to car design? I think I last saw it on a prewar Delahaye. And in the rear, wasn't there some recent Ferrari that had that open rear fender treatment? That highly curve rising spoiler on the street version seems Victorian for some reason. The front of the hood droops down in a curve reminiscent of the ancient air cooled VW beetle. Well, I can at least congratulate them by not making it obvious that it's built on a BMW Z4.

I was a little disappointed at the photo of the front of a silver Supra in a container that came out today. I liked the front of the concept car that has been teased for the past year. To me, it looks like Toyota management got cold feet and applied something a bit more conventional for the front end. Time will tell how the rear end really came out.

Don't care about the styling so much other than the fact that it's a rebodied BMW. What a weird choice for Toyota to make.

I have never been a big fan of Toyota designs. I have had a few of their offerings in my life due to their functional aspects and high mileage life spans. Then again, they are mass market cars and I'm traveling to the beat of a different drummer. The Supra just always (visually) seemed like a wannabe boy racer, never achieving any sort of hallowed status. Too bad, because Toyota has made some otherwise (functionally) great cars (and trucks). Toyota doesn't seem to me, to be the risk taker Honda is.

Personally, for all the fluff and fan-fair, it doesn't aesthetically live up to the hype.

Like many cars, I think I have to see in person to really judge. It's amazing how one's perception can easily change when experiencing a car first hand versus just photos.

I like it. Maybe a little overcooked design-wise v. the original, but overcooked is in and bet it runs like the wind.

What happened to Japanese design? Back when the design centers were in Irvine California, they made good looking cars. Maybe not great, but certainly not the angry insects they’re making today.

That is a total design fail IMO. The back is particularly hideous.

^Not sure which of those is uglier! ;)
Will be interesting to see what the drive reviews are like once this car is made.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 1994 twin turbo Supra. If I remember correctly, the MSRP then was the same as the 2020 and the horsepower numbers are right on top of each other. Hard to say that 26 years later they have moved the needle other than the fuel efficiency, safety, and tech gadgets.

I liked the concept ok, but the production version is stubby and rather strange. One of the designers must like Zagato with that double bubble roof line.

And this is how the Supra compares to its faster (by 0.2 sec in 0-60 mph) sibling BMW Z4:

Of course, it's not exactly a fair fight when the BMW packs a bigger turbocharged punch. The BMW Z4 M40i packs 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque from its turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, and weighs 3,443 pounds. The Supra, meanwhile, extracts 335 hp and 365 lb-ft from its version of the same engine, with the car's curb weight listed at 3,397 lbs.

On the other hand, you'll pay a fair bit more for the BMW. The 2020 Toyota Supra will sell from $50,920 with destination, while the Z4 M40i is rumored to start at closer to $70,000. That's in part because BMW will also offer a more affordable sDrive30i model, with a 255-hp, turbo-four engine. Either way, this Z4-versus-Supra news is exactly the sort of internet argument fodder that we're sure will rile up enthusiasts on both sides.

Usually the concept car has the crazy design elements and the production car is way tamed down. In this case it's the opposite.
