I'm sorry that you don't understand what auto mode is generally used for. You like pointlessly pressing buttons. Cool. Whatever excites you. Some people don't want that interaction with their car even single moment they're in it.

So when you find yourself in heavy or stop and bad traffic, why do you want to use the paddles so bad? What about when you're drinking a coffee or looking something up on your phone? Why wouldn't you just use auto mode and relax?

    Drinking coffee????

    Looking at the phone???

Are you talking about driving a Ferrari or a Honda?Actually buy an exotic car and drive it regularly and your questions will be answered.

This is now getting comical getting lectured by someone who had publically stated on numerous occasions that he finds cars boring to drive .

Well if you actually drove it properly you might, just might get why we use paddles instead of automatic mode.

Breaking News: Man who doesn't use his exotics in routine daily life doesn't use auto mode. Also at 11, lots of people who treat exotics just like any other car do use auto mode.

Yet somehow you're never in your Ferrari in traffic or bad weather or getting coffee or using your phone. It's a good thing all those exotics in London and Paris are always in manual mode, right?

You like to manually click the paddles and drive around at high revs even when there is nothing going on. It's cool. Do what you'd like, but don't act like automatic mode is broken or bad or unusable just because you have ideological issues with it lol

Your Range Rover has paddles too. I take it you manually change gears in that too, right?

Another diatribe and lecture from someone who DOES NOT OWN any exotic cars. Keep it up. The more you type, the more chance there is that might actually type something intelligent.

When Im driving an EXOTIC, Im not drinking coffee. Im not playing with phone. Even if I was, I would not be in automatic. I don't know how to explain this to you- 2+ years of 488 ownership, Ive never used automatic mode. Its sucks as a driving experience. And as far as London and Paris- I dont care- I dont live in London, I dont live in Paris.

Im not giving you some hypothetical scenario. Im telling you how I drive every single time I get in my cars.

Unlike you, Im not reading some magazine and giving you my interpretation of what I read trying to sound intelligent here. Im telling you how it actually is to drive my cars.

Who says anything about high revs? I dont use auto mode but that doesnt mean I redline the car every single time. It has nothing to do with ideological issues - auto mode is designed to conserve gas, keep revs low. That completely removes any excitement from driving the car. So no auto mode is not broken, it works exactly the way its supposed to. But the way it works sucks.

Good lord. Deflect much? Who the hell is talking about range rovers here. We are talking about exotic car ownership and driving experience.

Like I said, you talk about automatic mode as if it defeats the purpose of the car when in fact it serves its purpose extremely well. There is nothing wrong with it, be it in a 720S or 488.

Automatic mode: The mode you use when you don't want to use the paddles.

so according to you high rev means taking it to redline every single time.

Got it. Makes it clear now why you are unable to grasp simple concepts and like to argue with owners of cars about driving experiences when you yourself do not have any experience.

Tell you what- go buy a Ferrari, Mclaren, whatever and get back to me how good automatic mode.

No wonder so many people put you on ignore.

It's not about revs, it's about throttle application. And, believe it or not, McLaren programs their automatic shifting based on throttle application and drive modes.

High revs should mean heavy throttle. If you aren't heavy with the throttle, then you shouldn't be at high revs in normal driving and there is little reason to insist on manually shifting.

Why would I want to manually shift up and down between 1st and 2nd every other street when I hit a stop sign in a residential area? Why would I be at higher revs or heavy with the throttle? Voila, a perfect use case for automatic mode.

I’m curious if you actually believe the nonsense you type or are just so incapable of admitting that you have no clue what you are talking about that you keep posting said nonsense.

I probably have more automatic miles in a McLaren than you, so I think I know a thing or two about how to use it, thanks. LOL.

But go ahead, continue to mindlessly and pointlessly click your paddles up and down all day in your 35 mph zones. No one's telling you not to or how to enjoy you car. Do whatever you want, but don't act like the mode sucks or is broken. It works just as intended.

Of course it works as intended. Auto shift upshits as fast as possible tosave gas and keep the rpms low. Yes that’s how it’s intended and that’s how it works and the driving experience in auto mode is terrible.

Go record a video and prove it. Set it to Track (or whatever combination it is now) and give it heavy throttle in auto mode. Show us it kick up to 7th as fast as possible.

How about you go buy a car and try it yourself. I’m done wasting time on you. Why the hell would I make a video on something I don’t enjoy doing.

Normally I would just use Assistant and do a voice search, but in general, yeah, I often use my phone while driving to read the information or maybe read/send a message. No accidents yet, knock on woods. ;)
