The engine oil grade recommended by Ferrari for the 550 Maranello is 5W-40

Can I use 0W-40 oil? If I understand it correctly, 0W-40 is better than 5W-40 since cold temperature performance is superior

Yessir! The general consensus is that Mobil 1 0W-40 is just fine for most use cases. And you are correct that 0W is better for cold start up. You can search here for many threads on this topic.

BTW - I think the Ferrari recommendation is Shell 5W-40 or similar - if I am recalling correctly...

Great thanks! I was actually looking at the Mobil 1 0W-40 and will then get that one.

575M OM recommends either 0W-40 or 5W-40. With Mobil 1, make sure you get the European Blend or whatever they call it now.

Thank you for the tip. Since I am in the UK, can I assume that the Mobil 1 that I get here is the "European Blend"?

Does anyone know what is the difference between Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40 and Mobil 1 FS 0W-40?

I can't remember ball the details .. but I did quite a bit of research and determined that Mobil 1 fs European formula was the best to use based on zinc and phosphorus content

The esp M 5w40 which is no longer available in us was another good choice ..not sure if you can get it

I also remember if you do a search on Google .. I spec sheet PDF will come up .. which will give you the chemical comp

Also.. I think Bob the oil guy website may have virgin Blackstone analysis on the oil

Sorry I couldn't go back and look up all research but I 100 percent that you should stick with Mobil 1 fs European formula

The FS has more ash/sulfur/phosphorous than the ESP which is a low ash/sulfur/phosphorous oil. I'd take the FS over the more environmental ESP as it has a strong TBN compared to the ESP

Thanks, Dominick, Arvid. FS also has the benefit of being cheaper of the two!
