I find it very strange that Steve Davis, the president of Barrett Jackson, would come on and himself pump the positive attributes of the white TR.
Why would he come on and say that it is only a one owner 3500 mile car if it is not. Why risk his reputation?

That being said I think this whole
Auction is not representative of the tr market right now and massively overpaid

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw Steve doing his little "preview/commercial" of the white TR. Steve is a savy guy. Why risk his own reputation on pumping a car that is not legit? We'll have to wait to see what PineChris posts later on. Looking forward to his thoughts

They have 1800 cars running, if you think he actually spent anytime with the car beforehand you are mistaken . He simply rattles off what he was told or read. His reputation is not at stake.

I spoke to the owner of the white TR. As I was looking into it him and another guy approached me as I was looking inside. Unless he was just acting dumb, he didn't have any knowledge of the car, or cars for that matter. For example I asked him if it was a U.S. car... he replied yes, but he bought it in Italy. I said its not a U.S. version, he said yes it is, Joe Nastasi made it into one. He then replies, this one is very rare, its a flying mirror. I said no, its not a flying mirror, and replied yet again that it was. He said he was selling it because he got into a terrible car accident and needed the money for his medical bills. He looked ok to me, although he was definitely hard of hearing. I opened the engine compartment, and showed him a few things such as the hoses that leads to nowhere, and he got very defensive telling me not to touch anything as he didn't want to mess anything up. I tried to get a fe pics of the peddles quickly, but they came out a little blurry. I tried to pull up the sheepskin seat covers and was unable to , as they have several straps attaching them underneath the seat I would of needed to disconnect. From what I did see, they looked ok. I asked him about services, and he replied that it only had 3500 miles and never needed any service. He was adamant the car was going to bring atleast $150k.

Sounds like auction tunnel vision / auction fever on the part of the buyers.

Just for comparison - just shot this at 18.7k miles. Hard to tell from the pics, but definately more paint wear on the acc pedal.

Thanks for taking the time to catch the shot.

If the seats are in good shape and when goes in for the major if noting major pops up than the buyer got a nice tr with a great color combo

Looks like the white one needs a lot of love. The red one I find it acceptable, not beat from the pictures...aside the non original rims and wheels the rest seemed pretty standard.

One thing for sure- everyone with those TR not selling on eBay or autorrader should have gone to BJ this year.

Not beat? I see old farmers pick up trucks with better interiors. Whoever owned that car had to have been pretty abusive for the seat to look that way with such low miles. And that type of treatment does not stop with the interior.

Honestly I seen way worse... as soon as I did a dye on my sears the looked brand new. As far as the paint and so forth hard for me to tell but u are the expert.
I think lots of cars were neglected, specially when u could buy them for cheap- maintenance never went down and that’s the result.

Sorry but those are just excuses. A seat with wear like that at 13,000 miles is really hard for me to believe. I have a TR in the shop right now with over 80,000 and the seat is way better. Ours has considerably more than the red one, I always wear blue jeans which everyone says to never do and ours still look nearly brand new. Do we really call abuse normal now?

When I inspect cars for clients I tell them if you find evidence of poor treatment, the entire car has been subject to it, not just that part. In 40 + years I have never found evidence to the contrary.

I am not saying your are incorrect. I would not buy a car that has been abused. Mine was dealer maintained life long. I see YouTube videos of kids dropping the clutch etc. U are 100% correct.
I’m just saying that there are Trs which were bought cheap and unloved in recent memories. This could be one of them, specially the white one. I agree with u.

Fine but referring to that car as "Not beat" just isn't true.

Well given the car just had a major- if done properly- Although i still agree with u- i am not sure beat is the word for it I would use.
Since you are an excellent mechanic I am sure you would concur that due to time and lack of usage the 2 cars that sold for 220k are equally out of shape and need a full mechanical restoration to run properly.
I have not seen the cars, so I will defer to your judgements, but who knows what was done on the red major? Maybe it was a 20k major with a clutch done and so forth which could make it a better drivers than the 220k one? I don’t know. Again you work on those cars more than me so I will trust your assessment.

From what little I can see I'd classify both as garbage not needing further investigation. Too many fish in the sea. Putting a bad car right is far too costly. Cheaper to buy the best there is.

Agreed- but would you also agree that time capsule are a pin because they sat for so long?

Not a single bit. Replacing a few seals and rebuilding a few hydraulic components and putting on a set of tires is not very expensive.
Our TR sat for 9 years when we got it. Had 1000 miles on it. Zero issues a major service and a set of tires did not fix.

Lots of ill educated garbage out there about cars that spent a few years inactivity. Far better cars as a whole that poorly treated regularly used cars. I have recommissioned many cars that sat a very long time including an F40 that was walled into a living room and sat for 20 years and it just isnt that bad if you know what to do.

Interesting- I guess Tom P at autosport designs claiming on BAT those cars could be a 50k bill to restore might be incorrect then!

Additionally the rubber pedals in the white car were worn way down, especially compared to yours .
