#2179 reminds me to the good ol`Ferrari-Maserati Racing days. Owner Bart Rosman, a very nice man, also raced it several times on the Nürburgring. As I recall, he sold it some years ago. Does anybody know where the car is owned and located today? (not my photo!) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Walter 2179 GT lives in New Jersey/USA since February 2008. It is currently being restored in Pennsylvania, having had several serious crashes in the early race days (Paris 1960 and Nürburgring 1962, and then Silverstone 1998). Marcel Massini
I have two basic questions: 1) How many 250 SWB SEFAC's where built? 2) Is there a difference between what we call a 250 SWB SEFAC and a Comp/61? I understand a 250 SWB SEFAC/Comp61 had the following changes vs a 60 model: - Lighter chassis Tipo 539/61 - Revised rear suspension pickup points - Smaller diameter tubing (80mm?) and extra bracing points for rigidity. - Wider wheel arches, a flat trailing edge on the side windows and - occasionally a fuel protection flap over the driver’s side exhaust. - More powerful engine, Tipo 168B/61 engine with Testa Rossa cylinder heads, high lift tipo 130 camshafts, larger intake tracts and two-piece large diameter exhaust headers. With six twin-choke Weber 46 DCF/3 carburettors, nearly 300 HP was reached. Some of the engine castings including the sump, valve covers and timing case were casted from Magnesium. - Some of the cars featured hood-mounted bug deflectors, competition fuel-filler cap and left side muffler protectors as per the Le Mans regulations. Many thanks,
20 250 GT SWB Competizione SEFAC Hot Rods were built with lighter gauge alloy bodywork, only 1 RHD. I believe several other 250 GT Competizione SWBs were built in 1961, but they did not have quite as much (260-275 BHP) as the 280+ BHP of the hot "Special" SEFAC cars which had 3, not 6, Weber 46 DCF/3 or 46 DCL 3 carbs.
1961 250 GT SWB California Spyders have a tipo 539/61 chassis so I'd guess the steel bodied 1961 250 GT SWB Berlinetta street cars and the few 1961 NON SEFAC Alloy Comp cars with the more manageable/flexible and less brutal engines had a tipo 539/61 chassis also??? Perhaps Marcel or Dyke could confirm? The 1961 SEFAC cars were also stated as having tipo 168/Comp. 61 engines and tipo 539/61 Comp chassis. You'd need the build sheets of each individual car really as there are probably differences on many of them. Engine tipo of a 1960 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione such as 2119GT was 168B, chassis tipo 539.

Oftopic here, but the SWB Californias started with the tipo 539 chassis. They swiched in 61 to 539/61 and not from the start of 61. And fyi both Competizione SWB Californias (2015gt and 2383gt) have the early 539 chassis. So i think, that the SWB Berlinetta should be similar. But I don’t know the difference between 539 abd 539/61 in detail and what the difference (if any) are compared with the 539/61 comp. Greets
SWB heaven. Display at Retromobile Paris, February 2018. No clue if all are original. Maybe Marcel knows all chassis#? Sorry for the quality of the pics. All taken by cellphone as my camera gave up on me that day.
1771 GT, 1811 GT, 1917 GT, 2439 GT, 2845 GT, 2917 GT, 3005 GT, 3039 GT, 3107 GT, 3269 GT, all genuine, all ten on the stand of Swiss dealer Lukas Hüni AG. None are/were for sale. The 250 TDF is 1035 GT. Marcel Massini
Of course being a 1960 car, 2015GT will not have a tipo 539/61 chassis. Engine is tipo 168B. Do you have or have you seen the build sheets for 1961 SWB California 2383GT or are you going on the info in Nowak's book, which could very well be correct regarding the chassis tipo and also states the Comp specification engine as tipo 168?
