This can help others. I was looking for five 4.00 shims. That would be two kits for me. They don't carry spare 4.00s. Dealing with other DIYers took care of that. I got to talk to great people and I am not sitting on a ton of shims I will never use.

I got the shims and installed them. Because of you, my car is now in spec and ready for timing. Thank you so much Jeff!

All good! I have had the ear of some very nice people in dealing with my car so paying it forward is never an issue! Good luck getting it buttoned up, my car is currently tucked away while I'm doing a small resto on an 81 928, the porsche guys are a great bunch as well.

    jeff,
you may turn the shims 180° so the numbers are not to be seen. the cams of the camshaft will remove those numbers and the next one how has to adjust the valveplay has then to meassure all shims. so better to have those number to the buttom to read later again

    Great advice Romano. Thank you!

I had quite a few valves out of spec. I ended up pulling the cams. I took that opportunity to measure all the shims and document it. I am so happy to have that done.

I also always document those shim sizes to see over the years how it is changing
