The whole 488 facelift is so boring, I hope I'm surprised and they do something Kool. Ferrari really needs to step it up a bit.
I dunno...literally every Macca has been a facelift (I guess except the P1 and Senna?). I mean the MP-12C fax machine whatever it was called, the 650s, LT, 570, 720, yada yada yada. All the same platform, no? A "facelift" is a horribly misleading word to describe the difference between a 360 and 430, for example. Its an updated car/model based on the same chassis as its forebearer. That's all.
Agree it is hard to fault but I wouldn't call it ancient just because if isn't made of CF. The underpinnings such as suspension links, coils,shocks and other tweaks will always remain a work in progress, all in the course of further improving handling - which no doubt will be later cursed or looked down upon as somehow making the hp easier too easy to access. It's a lose lose situation for any manufacturer these days in the eyes of some. I love engineering and the advancements made by those with a passion to improve upon "old".
They'll continue to build more aluminium chassis in the future too. Especially for both F173 and F171.

12C and 650 were essentially the same car. 675 was the track version. 570 an entire new platform. 720 an entire new platform. But im very excited to see the new Ferraris. Im actually in Geneva but will miss the Geneva auto show by a week. Bummer! would have liked to see the new cars first hand.
If it is supposed to beat LaF, it has to be a)lighter or b)more powerful than LaFerrari. Point a) is unlikely because usable full electric mode requires bigger batteries that of course add more weight. And no word yet on extensive use of composite materials in BB (besides multi-material for underbody). So then, point b) is more likely. And BB will need more than 963cv at least. Some people try to scare me that BB will not be RWD only, and I know that implementing 2 electric motors at the front axle is a cost effective solution, but ... it is a mid-engined Ferrari, so ...
McLarens are not facelifts. Facelifts are 911.1 -> 991.2, or Huracan -> Huracan Evo. Almost identical car, inside and out, but with improved/new components. McLarens are different different inside and out, suspensions are often different, tubs/cage different. Powertrains are about as different as anyone else. Sometimes they change more, sometimes less. P11: 12C, 650S, 675LT P12: P1 P13: 570S, 570GT, 600LT P14: 720S P15: Senna They are a hodgepodge of components and designs. Tubs/cages are different, suspensions are different, engines are similar sometimes, gearbox improves, wheelbase is the same or similar (I think). The cars are more a constant evolution of components and designs.
Let's think whether the BB needs more than 1 electric motor to get into 1000cv range. If that would be the case then no other way(?) than put 2 e-motors and to the front axle. LaFerrari used 163cv electric motor on top of the 800cv (789hp) 6.3l V12. AMG "One" uses 3 e-motors of 160hp each. Are we stuck with ~160cv maximum power of electric motors? If you have any thoughts, let me know. PS. The FXX-K uses a 190cv e-motor. Also BB will not have KERS but turbo-charged batteries.
In the BB vs LF scenario, I don't think power alone will make all the difference (unless you're on a track with long straights - certainly not Fiorano); it will be more down to electronics, drivetrain and all that's necessary to achieve much better traction and handling in and out of the corners.
And most importantly, tires All the lap times set by the latest cars look amazing compared to the P1, 918, and LF, but those cars were tested typically on tires that are vastly inferior to the latest and greatest. If the new flagship mid-engine bests the LF on the track, I think it will largely be due to tires since I don't think this is going to be a lightweight model like the Senna.
It sounds noble but we cannot deny that Big numbers of raw power are needed as well. BTW Ferrari says "better acceleration than LaFerrari" and shows plot regarding "Perceived acceleration" whatever that "value" means in Ferrari database. Tires aside, I want the BB to be slightly faster than LaF and almost as much enjoyable. Will it be the case?
They're saying 1000 cv is purely for marketing purposes. To say it's the most powerful Ferrari ever created. Also it'll have KERS.
Please do keep in mind that this car is a much more advanced hybrid than the LaFerrari, so it wouldn't even need a 950 hp to beat the LaF.

He says that when you're cruising and put your foot all the way down, you have to feel the immediate response from the engine, a sudden increase in terms of acceleration and that has to continue, without any dip. Not much, I know, but from that point of view we can definitely expect something better than the LaF (also thanks to the higher torque of a turbocharged engine). In any case, I would expect a power output around 900hp (740 + 160 or so), to be later increased in further iterations of this whole new model.
For sure it has to excel the hybrid system from LaFerrari (let's remember revealed 2013), I cannot see the other way. Anyway, that story (Leiter's) reminds me of porsche 918 awd hybrid system and its "perceived" immediacy.
