24hrs with 458 Spider, disappointed

I wouldn't care so much about many owners, keep in mind that some of them are the car-firms they are registered at, and as the model you're looking at is now close to be a 10 year old model, over 10 owners is nothing to be scared about. Both my 458s had ower 10 previous owners and I think my last one I currently own which have only had minor issues over 30 000 km I've driven it so far, had something like 12 owners

As when it comes to importing I agree, not worth it as SEK is pretty weak at the moment. You should talk to Dream auto and Riddermarks bil, also 7H bil are very good reputable dealers if they have any 458s that you like

 

The difference is we've all actually owned both Mac & Ferrari brands, you have not. Being a raving fanboy of only one brand like Ferrari is silly. Jealousy is an ugly emotion. And yes, 720 is hands down the best car I've owned, and that's coming from someone who isn't a fanboy of anything, just buys different brands and enjoys them.

As they say here in TX some people are all hat no cattle--you might need to look that up.

Would have though that for grown ups smart enough to get themselves super expensive cars you would all also be mature enough not to argue like youngsters...come on guys... at least argue about the cars ... it’s all pretty petty and low!

IMHO Porsche makes the best 'all around' cars in the world. Even with that said, I still prefer the 'feel' of prancing horse and I'm surprised about your experience, especially the sound part.

Considering the exhaust is completely subjective, your point of view is as valid as mine or the rest of us for that matter. So if you prefer the sound of car x of car y, who am I to judge?

I do agree with many here that suggested perhaps the 458 you drove was not in optimal condition. The only modern Ferrari I've been able to try out is the 430, Cali t, and Lusso GT (both variants). I've found them quite exhilarating with none of the choppy gearboxes you mentioned, but then again - perhaps you were in a different situation, your personal results definitely can vary.

Agree wholeheartedly with all that (particularly your take on Porsche - very very true I've found, not discounting the wonderful and certain alluring attributes of Ferrari and the others).

No need to chill just yet. The OP already bought one but apparently it's got a choppy box and doesn't drive all that nice - must have copped a bad beating from previous owners etc.....always best to do some due diligence before parting with the hard earned on a second hand car.

My bad - sounded like he made a decision to buy - t drove a rental as you say... Mind you a rental is probably more likely to drive bad than good so.....not the best way to make a decision from ....the rental clearly had a very tough life....

Absolutely! You wont miss the Pana! And with the light hearted banter don't worry, those Texan lads (ipoi, socal aka kimosabe, and dusty) with their massively over-sized Stetsons may return if they can muster a cow to share lol!!! Could be quite a while though. I mean with such a large hat sure must make it hard to see anything haha. JK boys. All's good in the wood.

 

To go back on the topic, although I like my TR better, I too only drove the 458 just once, it was not a rental but a well maintained example from
My friend. I love the sound of the earlier model, and I didn’t experience any of the negative aforementioned.
I had posted before but I liked the car so much I even did a video of it with drone shots and stuff just for fun. Porsche may very well more rounded but from the modern Ferraris the 458 is my favorite

Looks like a great use case for automatic mode, and maybe even snow/wet.
