First time Ferrari owner here looking to do an oil change. While shopping for an oil filter I noticed a supplier on EBay stated their UFI filters were not compatible with the late model 328s with the 45 degree angle drain plugs. These filters will only work with the 90 degree angle drain plug.

Seeing how my model is an 87 I’m fairly confident that I have the 90 degree plug. I am away from the car for the night and can not physically check. What year or perhaps month / year was this 45 degree plug first used? A search turned up nothing. Being a car enthusiast for going on 4 decades at least I know enough not to ask on a forum what oil should I use.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Not sure what they mean. But I’m pretty sure the oil filter is no where near the drain plug

Yeah...that info from Ebay makes no sense at all. A filter is a filter; a drain plug is a drain plug and they have nothing to do with each other. The filter's at the top of a 3x8 motor, drain plug's at the bottom. Per the parts lists. same filter is used on all 3x8's.

It's probably a "kit" (or information derived from a kit) that comes with an oil filter and a drain plug sealing washer -- it's the sealing washer diameter that is different for early vs late 328, not the oil filter as already mentioned.

Service Bulletin 10-16 shows that they changed the oil sump casting to the deeper, later design (using the smaller diameter sealing washer) starting with Chassis No. 65001 for euro version 328 and Chassis No. 65101 for US version 328 (to decrease oil starvation during cornering). Here's drawings of the two designs:

Some of it I'm able to keep in my head - at least, for a little while ;) It's not like I "know" those chassis numbers off the top of my head. What I remembered (from hanging out here with y'all) is that the 328 engine oil sump design changed so I looked it up in the FNA "328 tech specs/recalls/service bulletins" publication. It's such a shame that F forced the shutdown of ferraridatabase, and we lost easier, widespread distribution of such information.

Here's a Dropbox link to that FNA 328 publication that every 328 (and Mondial 3.2) Owner should have IMO:

Yea thats right. It is is a kit. I did not consider that the washer could be the X factor in my ?. Thanks a lot for the replies and for the drop link as well.
