Awesome, I like the way you think. Why rent a car if you can pull off doing it in something special! I've been thinking of doing the same this summer, only shipping my car from Toronto to Calgary and spending some time exploring the rockies between Calgary and Vancouver.

Outstanding. This should be moved to a more general topic thread so more can enjoy.

Some very interesting cars there. What a shame the Panamera could not have been more like this:

Great photos. I love my Ferrari, but I would trade it in in a heartbeat for the Batmobile! :p
Safe travels and enjoy your time in LA.

Thank you for the kind comments. I am not sure if/how the thread can be moved. We are back now but found storage in LA so the car is still there. We are hoping to go back once or twice more before the end of our winter

This is the way to do it! Much better than leaving it in a garage back home for the winter! Thanks for sharing the cool pictures. Life is a journey, and it is about making it really awesome! Where did you ship it from? And at what cost? I have heared people pay crazy prices with small high end shipping companies with a single trailers. How is that in the States?

I like your scenic photography including the car, even if just partially, into the picture(s).
It lends to authenticity and reference of you & your car having actually been “there”.

I’ve been documenting my travels same way for decades, although most of my/our long distance (1000+ mile) leisure trips are done with one of my vintage cars ranging from 30-85 years in age, I prefer driving them to-&-from of any intended destination, making the journeys part of the adventure. Were planning a 3K+ mile driving vacation to Olympic Nat’l Park (& back) next summer. The ride will be either 87 or 62 year old vintage convertible.

Glad to see you had a chance to experience “Angeles Crest Hwy”, but keep in mind for your next visits there are many other wonderful mountainous (read twisty) highways & roads within 1-2 hour reach of L.A. area.

Thanks for the questions and tips.

F456M: The car was shipped from Toronto via TFX Transport - I believe they can transport up to 6 cars in each enclosed trailer. The cost was not inexpensive but reasonable in the grand scheme of things.

TTR: Thank you for the complement on the photos. It was easy to get "authenticity" as the landscapes (city and surrounds) were very photogenic. I also have a full frame camera - did not use it nearly as much as I should have (for the most part it was a family trip with varying interests, and little time to set up the big camera). When I get a chance, I will go through those photos and post anything that might be of interest. I may touch base for driving tips if/when we come back (we were planning another "adults only" week in February but our 5 year old does not seem to be ready "to be on his own" for a week). We are playing it by ear but maybe we will do another family trip during March break. The ultimate adventure would be to drive the car back in the spring via Route 66 and beyond but I am not sure if life and my schedule can afford such an extended time out this year. We will see...
