what is mind boggling to me is that people care so much if a guy overpaid by 20k - not like we are talking about 600k or 2M.

Probably a mind set. I grew up surrounded by affluent people in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Rich people can be perceived as being very cheap and stingy with their money.

Makes, sense as once you accumulate your wealth, you have to be prudent to keep your wealth.

That’s probably why so many people scratch their heads and are alarmed at these outlying numbers.

I don't care what he paid but it's just a matter of perspective. (maybe 20k to you is like $20 to me?)

    I'll say it again.

This was a fair deal on a very good original low mileage example of the last year of the 355s.
There can't be very many1999 stick spiders in this color combination in this kind of shape. Wha is the top price a Fiorano has brought?

I sold my garage queen 355 for $25K more than this car last fall.

You probably know the production numbers, Dave. How did 1999 355 production break down? Do you have color info?

I would bet that there were less than 100 Nero 6-speed spiders built worldwide. Or I can be entirely wrong.;)

I'm certain there are more. Nero / Beige is not as popular as Rosso Corsa / Beige but it's common.

What I do know is a total of 529 F1 GTS's have been made :)

May I be the first to remind you that last summer, after several years of predicting a falling 355 market I changed my tune and predicts a rising market. :)

And I disagree with Dave a little on miles. Miles only tell you how far it's been driven, not how it's been driven. I'm a little more wary of cars that have been passed around. That black spider has had 7 owner. The records on BAT show a major in 2005, a major in 2010 and then the latest major in 2019, an oil service in 2007 with some other minor repairs, and a PPI and compression test in 2007. Not particularly a well documented car. As for condition, my car certainly presents as well in pictures, maybe better. On this car the driver's side dash and center vents are improperly installed, the airbag leather is obviously coming loose, the under tray banged up a bit, wrong radio. I'm not seeing anything special about this car. Someone just really wanted a black/tan 99 spider.

I tried to search it on FChat. I remember a thread with Taz and Pap. I'm sure it is on here somewhere, I think there were only 1000 1999 spiders total. They all probably came to the US.

How many of that 529 were Rossa Corsa over Nero???;)

Yes and only 74 in RHD. No matter the numbers that US owners think are high the RHD cars are seeing much higher values and I think 100k+ USD is cheap compared to what an equivalent car would cost here. Enjoy it while you can, and be like Dave buy more than one while you can.

What would an RHD car like the one on BaT sell for in Australia??? How about a 2004 575M F1 with 22K km sell for??? Just curious, it is a long drive to Sydney from Las Vegas. What are the rules on importing older cars??

The day you agree with me John is the day I play the lottery :D

Sure, that's true but generally, miles correlate with wear and tear ;)

The point that I always try to make to potential buyers is that you have a car and a story. Buy the best car you can lay your hands on that your budget permits.

The car is all that matters.

All 355s are over 20 years old at this time and even a pristine, no mileage garage queen like mine will require attention.

The books and stamped service matter.

    The odometer matters.

    The service records matter.

The most important thing is the car.

My last F355 I sold was a manual 98 Berlinetta, fully sorted, fresh Major, Tubi headers, capristo bypass, new cats, no sticky, dash done etc. 30,000 miles (6 owner car) sold for 225k USD or 310,000 AUD.

My 95 GTS is a better car and would command more. Buckets sell here for 200k AUD.

My buddy is an Aussie and he said his 2016 Chevy 1/2 ton Silverado would cost 150k USD (or something crazy).
