Not done perfectly to scale, but it was good enough to take 1st place in the race!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great job. As a former pinewood derby champ (my car was modeled after the then-new Porsche 928) I salute your son.
Super Rad!!!! Mine was based on the Mythos. I didn't win but looked the best. a ferrari club member who owned a machine shop and we made a great representation. I still have it around somewhere.
This years entry. Decided to try an F1 style car. Of course, we had to paint it red and put some Ferrari decals on it. Race is this weekend, Image Unavailable, Please Login
My son's pack's race is not until March so we have another month to finalize the car. Being from the UK, this is all new to me... I'm very impressed with your entry this year Dom!
Dom you have time to take it to Maranello for some wnd tunnel testing! Or blow cigarette smoke through a hair dryer
Well, we didn’t win this year. Lots of cars, and seems like everyone knows to search the web for tips on making your car fast. Some nice competitive heats with photo finishes (including our car). One of the dads had to sit by the finish line with his phone to record each race, so that the video could be played back in slow motion to determine the winner. Here’s a few photos of the cars we build over the years. This year, the F1-style car, last year, the Porsche 997 targa, and the year before that, the first place winning 308GT4. coincidentally watched a video on how to make a derby car fast the other day. I had help one year and made a mythos inspired car. the guy who helped me was in the Ferrari club and owned a machine shop. I didn't win but it was fun. Now all the info is out there - thank you youtube!
We (my dad and I) learned through trial and error. We finally figured out it was all about wheel lubrication (in 1976, anyway). We found some hard-core oil at a local model train shop that made ALL the difference and helped sweep the entire Pack (3 Dens). Got smoked at the next big regional event, though. If Prolong is still made....that would be an interesting test. I swear by that stuff.
Found my mythos!!! I made this one around 1990. I had the help of a ferrari club member that owned a machine shop. I didn't win but I felt I did it with style!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
