Please explain to me a $111,000 355

All I know is Mine is one of them.

 

Overpaid. Probably just a trigger happy buyer. An aberration. That’s all. For me the only 355 is a GTS 6 speed with valve guides and headers done and a recent belt change and fresh tires. Want a turn key example or at least the closest thing to that a 355 can be. Still be hard for me to break the 6 figure mark even if this unicorn came up for sale.

 

And at least put the damn airbag cover on the ironing board will ya? Really one of my pet peeves with these cars. It’s a little thing that goes a long way in making you think less of an otherwise nice interior. The lettering around the knobs and switches are nice and white and the color in the leather rich. No fading. Nice original color depth on the steering wheel and carpet. All the visual cues there but the there’s this banana starting to peel. For my money I want that right too.

 

Apparently the car is worth exactly what the person paid for it. Nothing more , nothing less. Best , Kirk.

That is what I have and it is pretty close to 6 figs and I don’t mean date’s. Valve guides, headers, capristo, clutch and tires all in last two and half years - tires and clutch within past 8 months. Pretty spectacular with no real needs. Just picked up an original unpainted top so it looks like it came from Ferrari. Love it!

And this sale just helps it. I think they are going “north” in pricing sooner than later. Probably going to look for a GTS F1 or Berlinetta F1 to go in garage with mine. I have a spider option too, but it is another 6 speed car and I think I really want an F1 to share garage with. And to think I would sell [emoji854]

Buyer if this car had the money. Was getting what he wanted and all the records, recent service and low miles. What is not to like. I can buy a “turd” all day long. But nice cars are hard to find. Cheers!

Factually true, but the actual point is how many other people - in a proper sample of the market - would have paid that much for that car.

Oh it is aggressive for sure. The fee part really gets me. I hate fees, LOL. I think if we are current owners and love our cars, we support this price 1000%. If you are a buyer and do not get it, that nice cars are worth more now, than they were a year ago, you better start trying to buy now, before they go up again. (Damn that is a lot of commas)

As for me, my next sell point is now $100k [emoji41].

This thread reminds of when Dino 246s as well as 308s/328s we’re crossing their respective price chasms.

 

355's are fantastic cars and I agree that one day they may really go up in value. Right now, pristine cars, gated or F1 and fetching very good prices on the private market when collectors seek to purchase them. However, it's pristine cars that fetch the numbers, not fair to decent cars that are just being talked up - that doesn't make them worth more.

 

The day I picked up my brand new 1998 355 GTS F1 in Los Gatos I walked past two Dinos and a 512BB. I could have almost bought all three for what I paid for my 355.

The best 355s out there are gaining traction in the market. Good cars will bring good money. Ask me how I know.

 

Exactly what my last post said. However, there are guys trying to ride that wave with cars that are decent at best.

I bought my 95 back in 2002 or 2003 as well. 12,000 miles red tan - the valves had been done and the exhaust manifolds too and I’m pretty sure I paid either 87 or 92k. I think the sticker was 125k.

In 98 I bought my m3 new...sticker was 40k I think and today it has 72k miles and i think id get around 25 to 30k for it.

I had a 20-year ride starting in 1998 with a purchase of a new 355. I never hoped to break even, but my annual cost of ownership was pretty cheap IMHO.

Long term ownership of one Ferrari isn't like buying a new MBZ AMG every two or three years. Discussing appreciation and depreciation takes all the fun out of fun cars. When I am enjoying one of my cars or other toys the last thing I am thinking about is money. When the car or toy breaks and needs to go to the shop is a different story.

The best advice I can give is to enjoy your 355 and forget about what it costs.

 

When pristine cars go up in value, the cars in good or fair condition get a bump as well. There's no real need to make the distinction.
