So, a short summary of what we know so far: Replacement of 488 GTB will be a facelifted version based on the 458/488 platform. The car will be sold as a new model with a new name. It will most likely be shown in Geneva next month. 720 hp is "confirmed". The car has got four taillights borrowed by the 812 (correct me if I'm wrong), with headlights close to SP30/J50. Some people say it has "Portofino vibes" with elements from Pista. It will look more sporty and sculpted compared to 488. Don't expect a new interior exept from new steering wheel and small details. It surprised me when I got to know that Ferrari was extending the life cycle of the 458 platform, but it also makes very much sense. The competition from Mclaren is to blame. They are way ahead with their platforms and tech, and Ferrari is just not there yet. It's better to wait until they are up to date with Mclaren. Ferrari is going a different way from what we are used to, and we will see many unexpected things from them very soon. New lines of cars will arrive, not only replacements and facelifts. Now... over to the big brother and "the real 488 replacement". Big brother: hybrid V8 twin turbo, a new line of cars that will sit above the base mid-V8 (soon to be V6 according to some rumors). A mini LaFerrari, with a brand new platform and a new design language that COULD be the one to lead the next gen Ferrari-design. If not, the "real 488 replacement" will be the final answer on what design we can expect from Ferrari in their future line up. The car in the pictures is the real deal with the final bodywork and interior hidden under the camo. It will have a super sporty "spaceship" design language with high tech elements related to its extreme performance and hybrid technology. For double the money and the same platform the new car will have lackluster sales. A preowned 488 will be the best deal out there soon. Pricing continues to drop - and a 488 in the low 200's is a great deal. Add a tune, tighten the suspension and you are competing with the Pista.
Spot on assessment. 488's are tanking right now from what I see on secondary sites (in US). This is the first 'readjustment' since going public and I think we'll see much more of this profit driven product development. Let's face it, they don't care about customers...it's about shareholders as any public company. Profit is king. If I where interested, I'd grab one now and get in before these others hit. I don't get this 'new' pricing for same platform...will be fun to watch.
Compete with what? There's no other car to compete with the BB. I guess it's fighting Aventador. Also stop dreaming about a 500k BB. It's a folly. It's not gonna be that cheap.
BB isn't out, so it's pie in sky right now. No brand is sitting still...there will be plenty to beat it and soon. Don't be so confident...
Others don't necessarily have make a car to beat the BB. It's Ferrari's own thing. Others will be be busy selling their own car. And there wouldn't be such a car for that price for some time at least.
I'm in love with Ferrrai, this is clear. However keeping a platform for 10 years is unacceptable to me. Keeping the same interior is also crazy. I understand McLaren issue but it is crazy to pay 300k for a new car that is a restyling of a 10 years old project. How cares of 720 HP if the platform is 10 years old?
How can be justified a base price around 500k (EUR? USD?) for a non-limited production? Such a car needs something very special, IMHO. A new chassis, an hybrid system and some more HP squeezed out from the V8 can't tell the full story. edit: I'm talking about BB
I also think so. In comparison: LaFerrari got 963hp, thereof 163hp of e-power. V8 may deliver 720hp. In order to keep the installed battery weight and volume reasonably low, the Power Rating of the electric system may not exceed approx. 120hp. It is to considered that the pure electrical (minimum) driving distance is being regulated nowadays. In contrary to the Time the LaF was launched when all this did not matter. Regarding this, I do not believe the BB will go close to 900. Just a simple mathematical guess, though.
Hybrid systems have made huge improvements since 2011-2012 ( Laferrari engineering design period ) Don't forget also all the knowledge they have from formula one power unit . The way I see it : V8 TT ~ 750 hp Kers + mguh + new batterie ( ala amg one ) ~ 250 hp Seems plausible.
All Aventadors were far more expensive than a 488. And yet, they've sold thousands. I think close to a 10,000 Aventadors. Who wouldn't buy a 1000 hp RWD V8TT hybrid Ferrari hypercar for less than a million dollars?
We love V12's because Ferrari is known for them, and Enzo loved them. But objectively, it's all about performance. A TT V8 is a smaller, lighter package, and makes for a shorter power unit with the electric motor. If it beats LaF around Fiorano, and it will, plenty of buyers will be clamoring for them. Sentimentality for the V12 will be little or no factor. BTW, aren't we expecting AWD, with the front wheels electrically assisted?
i understand, but personnaly, i prefer soul and emotions than stupid performance level on open road.nobody can use it, Ferrari owners are not professional drivers... Actually, power is just an ego question...it s not my state of mood, i m a lover of Ferrari s Hystory and the NA V 12, just for the 5 senses
Completely agree with you but it's not only about ego , It's about a beautiful shape and a technological tour de force . My 911 with 320 hp was way beyond my driver's Skills .
Why would they use it in the smaller, lighter car and not the BB I wonder? It will be interesting to find out. It shouldn't add much weight. Even the mechanical system in the FF and Lusso is small and light enough that you can lift it off the floor and put it on a bench with ease. With the ceramics they use now, the motors shouldn't weigh much at all.
Smaller (well, shorter at least) they might be, but with the turbos, intercoolers and all the plumbing, they are not particularly lighter than a N/A V12.
They wouldn't be going to 6/8 cylinder turbo hybrids if they weren't lighter, more efficient packages.
