Looks like the new F1 single seater will be named after the 90th anniversary, so it seems unlikely they'll use a similar name for a road car.
Curious to know the ages of your friend group. Seems like the brands have distinct demographic differences along with some notable regional sensitivity.
All this makes good sense as something is happening at the factory as we did a private tour Tuesday and did not get to see the primary V8 assembly line (1st V8 floor). We had just finished a Pista TM and I really wanted to see the others but she said its off limits for "maintenance". Also off limits was the F1 tour as the new car is there and another thing off limits was the completed car storage area, not sure who I gotta be to go there but that would have been fun.
I think the point that SoCal to az is trying to convey is the MOST emerging enthusiasts are NOT considering Ferrari as their first choice for a supercar. I'd have to say....I agree. From YouTubers, to Cars and Coffee attendees, to group gatherings, to street meets/drag meets....Most prefer Mclaren, Lamborghini, and Porsche GT cars vs. Ferraris. I've experienced general "thumbs up" and enthusiasm when riding in those marques. I drive my 488 around and get an occasional middle finger....like "look at that d*****bag"
I'm not sure I would necessarily call it "brand bickering". I would say that as of late; enthusiasts for McLaren, Lamborghini, and Porsche tend to fall into a more similar grouping and the Ferraris are starting to get the "been there done that" or eyeroll "here comes that guy" look. It seems there is more Mclaren bashing on this forum than there is Ferrari bashing on the Mclaren forum or Lamborghini forum. Those forum participants are generally more enthralled into their own marques vs. the "inferiority complex" syndrome many Ferrari folks tend to have...ie., constantly trying to defend the Ferrari brand.
I don’t really see that. As stated above maybe it’s regionally sensitive. Most of the people I know are still buying Ferraris as well as some of them Porsche, some of them McLaren, only one Lamborghini and only one out of about 20 people I know don’t have a Ferrari and even he would love to be able to get a Pista at MSRP. Age ranges from 40’s to 70’s, all people who drive their cars a lot. Usually the older people drive more because they have the time and do regular road trips and rallies. I also don’t think your point about YouTubers is right. Mr JWW has owned multiple Ferraris and has recently paid over MSRP for a TDF (pretty committed if you ask me), Shmee owned an FF and loved it (as most owners do), seen through glass is a Ferrari nut etc. etc. As for Fchat, this is not a criticism but my genuine feeling having been a member of Maclife is that there is a stronger amount of vitriol outside of fchat about Ferrari than the other way around but maybe you could argue it is even. I just don’t see that fchat chat supports the fact that Ferrari owners are more aggressive towards other brands. It does make sense if you think about it. Ferrari is the market leader and other brands are challengers. Where you get Ferrari guys being quick to shout out it is usually as a result of a constant barrage of negative talk - the mindless “my car is better and I am smarter for buying it” rubbish that is often the undertone to a lot of comments. Having said that, it doesn’t really matter what the truth is, unless we want to get into an argument about who has the most arguments...!!
Funny to hear there are „middle fingers“ elsewhere. I am used to experience thumbs up, smiling faces and waving hands, head turning bike riders and photoshooting groups of admirers during tank stops. And yes, it is a F (488). And furthermore, it is - in Germany.
It's indeed called SF90, so you're probably right in thinking the FL will have a different name. A side (offtopic) note about the comments above. Most of the owners and enthusiasts I know are in the 30-35y.o. group from Switzerland and Italy (swiss, italian, german people) and for them and their families it's always been about Ferrari and Porsche. And they're certainly mature enough to not give middle fingers to anyone (if you get one for driving a Ferrari, be thankful that you are NOT on the other side).
I love owning and driving my Cali T. It feels great to drive, sounds wonderful and looks spectacular. I want a supercar as well. Unfortunately, I feel as if it will only be “super” for a couple of years since technology is moving so fast and whatever I buy will turn into an aged depreciating asset all too soon. I work so hard (like I believe many other enthusiasts do), I really question and have difficulty justifying whether the pleasure gained is worth losing the sort of money it costs regardless of whether I can afford to do so. Ferrari is out to make money and for better or worse has people who have the means and desire to buy everything they produce regardless of their intent to race, drive, look pretty or show off at the club. Ferrari will make as many cars as they can sell and only consider their best customers as the people who get the “special”, limited number cars instead of the customers who are most enthusiastic about what the brand has to offer. This will be their downfall as prices go up, true enthusiasts are only able to buy mass produced depreciating cars, and special limited cars are only sold to the old guard. Because of this, I will just keep my Cali T and buy a Porsche GT car since it is accessible, will provide me with supercar performance and can be traded in every 3 years or so for the next best thing without any significant financial loss (especially as compared to Ferrari). I suppose this works because there is a more focused, limited appeal to the “special”, Porsche GT cars which makes them accessible. How Ferrari can do the same is unknown, then again would they ever want to “limit” their appeal? When people are not even questioning spending 500k to 600k on BB which is not even going to be a limited production car all bets are off (and the desirability to own one goes down), in my opinion.
Don‘t be too disappointed if you once have to notice the GT‘s price level goes South like a bobsleigh slope. They‘re throwing tens of thousands on the market at present.
Not my experience at all, everyone loves my Ferrari and goes Gaga over it. Nothing but positive vibes here.
According to a press article Louis Camilleri has said that the new model will be introduced at an own event later this year (thus not at the Geneva Motor show). It was said that the new car is lined above the 812, for whatever that means. The new model would get to the market in 2020. Mr. Camilleri said that, in 3 years time, about 60% of all to-be-produced Ferrari cars would consist of Hybrides. The first full electric Ferrari is scheduled after 2022. To me remarkable, he continued saying that the first customers were impressed by the Ferrari Purosangue! Which means that some should have seen the bodyworks (maybe not yet what is under the hood or in how far the interior will be any different from let's say a GTC Lusso) but, as far as I know, nothing has leaked yet!

This is confirmation of what I have heard and been saying and what Ferrari implied. The mid engine V8 going upscale and significant price increase. I wonder when we’ll we hear him reference the mid V6...?
Did they even proof read this article? "It will sit at the top of Ferrari’s sport cars range and will offer more horsepower than the 184-hp 488 Pista "
Camilleri's quotes were two weeks ago so there are long discussions already in the 488 area - car nicknamed Big Brother - possibly May launch - surely there is no need for additional discussion in this section to which the new car would appear not to belong
Same here, in Kentucky. I can’t imagine living in a place where people could hate you for driving any marque, Ferrari or otherwise. McLarens, Porsches, and Lambos are cool. So is the Nissan GTR, Acura NSX, and new Supra. I just prefer Ferraris for all sorts of reasons, although I still have a 993TT that I purchased new. No right or wrong answers. We’re all blessed to have access to any of these cars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
New version fo the 488 gtb confirmed to be launch in Geneva in March, for delivery beginning of 2020, so excepting the 720 hp available on this version I am just waiting for some more specs!
With our 458 we were always amazed at all the positive reactions we received. It generated smiles inside and outside the car. Looking forward to my incoming 488 and 812 later. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
