Hi all, As Ferrari grandmother owner I have problem finding some parts and price are sometimes ….. So I planned to remake some of them. I found the man who can do it, but of course there is a cost and more than parts will be made, less the cost will be high. I would like start manufacturing the heating and A/C control knob #6180800 for 328/Turbo. Are there any other members who are ready to book the purchase of one ( or several ) of these part ? Of course the price should be according the number of pre-order I think I know most of « Ferrari part supplier » usually quoted. So please don’t answer me to advise me to contact this or that one. Thanks
Just the knob or also the square colored piece behind it? Either way, yes. Price depending I would buy several.
Brian, just the knob right now. I would like also redone the square part ( the Blu and Yellow one ) but I don't know yet if this could be done.
When you can let us know the price range. I could see possibly buying ten but then like I said it depends on price. I would suggest making the design slightly different. Raise the knob a little so your fingers do not wear the square behind it. 3 or 4 mm higher would be great.
The squares with graphics all have overlays. If those are NLA, we can produce them all as we do many others. But, like anything, there needs to be enough demand to cover development costs.
My first idea was to make a copy like the original. If the size is not the same you should change all of them. But why not, I also saw several car with the square worn and the drawing partially erased with time
i will buy a full set as soon as they become available maybe you can make the base plates as well ? mine are all in great shape but i want new
Have any idea by who? I know someone in Monterey was working on the frames and it became a bigger job that he expected with higher costs, less interest etc. and it didn't happen.
That might have been me - made some smooth and knurled aluminum knobs a while back. Here’s a link to some additional info. https://www.coroflot.com/THoke/Ferrari-Parts
There was another thread on this a few years ago. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/328-center-console-knobs.447236/
Actually, it is. Injection molding requires at minimum an aluminum mold, steel is better. The originals have been injection molded. Urethane casting uses a silicone mold made from a master part and the life of the mold is very limited. These dials are what is call "as mold". That means the color, finish, texture is what comes out of the mold - they are not coated. So, to reproduce these correctly (to original standards), the proper materials and mold finishes are required. If these are like the 512 TR knobs, they also have a brass insert and a tapped hole for a set screw to pin the knob to the shaft dial.
I have already done another part ( the dash vent ) and result was same as original. I can't see difference when you have the two parts ( OE and redone ) in your hands. But I will ask a confirmation of the method that is used. Indeed there is a brass insert with a screw. it's not decided yet but it may be done of the same material as the rest of the part for cost reason. On my car the knob was broken "outside" of this insert ...
I could get the anodised knobs for about $10 but would need some dimensions or a sample. The colour could be black or any of the usual anodising colours.
@Dave rocks the part is done by "casting under vaccum with a bi-composent resin" ( according google translate ) Anyway I will show the first part made ASAP. This may have to be done in two weeks
