Well done test, all 3 performed exceptionally well. Fwiw notice the 720 times at end would have bested all.
Thanks. What a beautiful track location! Thinking aloud, and knowing these are track-focused cars (and hoping to not get too far off topic), how would the 488 GTB, with the appropriate rubber, have fared here?
I’ll never understand how they pick the cars for these comparisons. You take the top of the line Ferrari and put it up against the mid model Porsche and Mclaren. Wouldn’t it have been better to have at least a 2rs i there? And a 720?
The biggest problem with the Pista is the Speciale, it seems to have just a tiny bit less of the Ferrari sauce as it's older brother. Still means it's one heck of a car, seems the value play meant something in this review, as the Pista is 50% more expensive than the other 2 cars.
Not so. https://fastestlaps.com/tracks/anglesey-coastal PS. Worthy of notice is the power to weight ratios of the 3 and the fact that 720 has been dyno'd and found to have 770hp, not 720. Doesn't support the carbon tub argument as being a must have for Ferrari and Porsche...
Thanks. 1.4 seconds behind the Pista and in front of the other two. Impressive - and, begs a few questions.
720s dynod in sportauto Supertest around 74x hp aswell in sportcars supertest. So at least here in Europe they are nowhere near the quoted 770-780hp. and yes in the test above the 720s was faster in accelerating and equal in braking, with normal raod tyres. A carbon tube wouldnt be the badest solution for the pista, neither for the 2Rs. Swapping from the 2Rs in the 720s or 675lt you can easily fell it on the track witch body is stiffer, thus looses less energy. Except the 720S is on Corsas and the 720S in Spider form will be almost identical to the coupe because of the tub, whereas the Pista Aperta will suffer much more than the Pista.
Kudos must go to Mclaren who in such a short period has distinguished themselves with the development of a slew of exceptionally capable super cars. The fact that the 600LT , which sells at half the actual purchasing price of the Pista was deemed to be the superior driving car. It is fairly safe to assume that the LT version of the 720S will become the new standard in this category.
The Pista looks -to me at least- like the most competent on video (it appears to “fight” the track less than the 600LT)...Of course it is an expensive car, but there is a premium for the brand and keep in mind that performance improvements get more and more expensive as you reach these levels...The Senna is a better track car than the Pista and it is also double the price...The “enjoyment” factor is subjective, which is why the debate is so much fun...What I enjoy may be precisely the thing that you hate about a car...If you are looking for pure driving enjoyment, buy an Alpine A110...You’ll pay a lot less and the smile factor is off the charts! I’m not trying to start an argument about which car is better or worse at which price. Everyone has their opinions and justifications for this. All I’m questioning is the choice of the cars in the test. Just doesn’t seem logical to me to choose the cars that they did.
Yes but if you compare on-the-road prices the ratio is smaller. My Pista was over $450k and I bet most cars species are over $400k. You could get a well Specced Senna for under £800. I do take your point though, the ratio is over 2! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Hi George here in the UK you can get pretty much everything carbon plus most other options for £295k, mine is fully loaded for that, you get a lot standard in the UK, carbon engine and rear diffuser and more, I maybe wrong but I think the only carbon options for the exterior are the under door sills and the rear bits between the lights and spoiler. A well specced 600LT is £235k so even that not massively different really. You are about right with the Senna though.
Amazing the pricing difference in U.K. and US. I don’t think I’ve see one Lista specced for under 475k and with premiums they are selling for 600k plus.
In Canada a 600LT can be had nicely equipped for the equivalent of $265k US. A Pista is over $500K US if you can even get one.
