If you stop in Lake Charles, L'Auberge and Golden Nugget come to mind. I've stayed at L'Auberge, and even though I'm not much of a gambler enjoyed it. They have a nice restaurant, a club, and a lazy river in addition to the casino. Occasionally they hold concerts and that sort of thing. I haven't been to the Golden Nugget, but it was built recently so it may be pretty nice. I've driven through both areas many times, but nothing really stands out.

Apart from chemical plants, casinos, and horse tracks there is not much on that stretch of I-10.
If it were me, I would push on to Lafayette, shorter trip the next day plus some interesting stuff
like Blue Dog Cafe, and with a shorter next day trip to NO, you can stop off and see the Tabasco
    plant in New Iberia.

I had a niece there in school for a few years. I don't recall where all she took us. Love the food of the area. My Fathers Mothers people were Claiborne's and I grew up with it.

Use to live over in Houma and would come to Houston from time to time. The best your going to find outside the casinos is going to be 3star quality at best unless your willing to make Baton Rouge. And even there 4star is all you will find and only two at that. But if none of that matters then enjoy the trip.

Lafayette has great food, but it is a very poor area. You’ll see homeless everywhere. Push on to the Florida or Alabama beaches.

Ps Lafayette is half way between Houston and Pensacola. Spend the night, eat some food, and push on. Old Thyme Grocery has great poboys.

    Ps1. I-10 sucks

I 10 sucks in a lot of places. When we drive through New Mexico the other half always says "This must not be the enchanted part". At least in Texas and Louisiana you can eat well. Most of the rest of I 10 means Taco Bell and Dairy Queen. Mad Max could have been filmed on I 10.

^The section between Sonora and Ft. Stockton seems especially bad. We drove out to Big Bend recently and that section of the drive seemed like they had the landscape set on repeat. We had cruise control set on 85 and it felt like we weren't even moving. We did manage to find a DQ so the food isn't ALL bad. ;)

When I was a teenager in the middle of summer we broke down between Sonora and Ozona. A state trooper stopped and looked us over. He said " no private property damaged, no public property damaged, none of my business" and he drove off leaving my brother, my parents and I standing there in the middle of a summer afternoon. We had to hitchhike to Ozona. You need to close your eyes driving through there because seeing it will suck the soul right out of you. I don't even stop for gas until Ft Stockton. I know the Dairy Queen there by the highway well. Next stop, Las Cruces. No need to stop in El Paso either.

To see more of Louisiana's wonderful heritage, you really should wander "The High Road", thru Appalousas, and then Lafayette.

I am learning my way around Baton Rouge and Denham Springs.
Most nightlife in BR is downtown, against the levee.

Go to BR for the St Patties day parade. Its quite a party. An old friend started it and he and his brothers still organize it. The second biggest event for the purchase of glass beads after Mardis Gras in NO. They have a bar float and serve Milk Punch and Bloody Marys. LSU always has some big floats.

    Your kind of party Tex.

    Watch leo’s On i10.

I would not bring a f car and stay overnight through this corridor.

If you are in something else, then by all means enjoy the local cuisine.

I grew up in Baton Rouge. Very good food!

Well. I have my responsibilities to the Irish 100 of Texas.....for the Houston Parade 2019.

BUT that is a fine recommendation and I will do that once I live there full time!
I will also be working at IndyCars at COTA if you have the time to drop out there!
    Same weekend.

Oh, and my three rugby mates from the UK picked Austin Rodeo this year, but I think they are the first weekend of not the last...

Beautiful big homes. Then you realize its Lake Charles and they lose their luster.
