I've been to these Lloyds auctions at the Gold coast and they tell you this lot number is online that you are bidding against
If no-one puts in a bid that is higher (meaning it hasn't reached its reserve ) then it gets wheeled outside

Not talking about being forced to do anything.....We are talking about transparency and ethics....The way the action houses do business is Fraudulent but they get away with it as they need both a buyer and a seller to do business.....Some are worse than others...I always looked at it as a cost of doing business....Does not make it right though....They will all sell on paper but I suspect most of them will still be parked in Gosford after the auction...Then stage 2 they will do all the same old rounds at Duttons , Grazianis CTS, etc again....

Look, let's face it...they have a minimum price that they'll sell at. After it reaches that price, they stop the fake bidding.

Agreed, of course "museum" cars have been on the Duttons/CTS/Graziani merry-go-round for months and years already.

Like everything to do with the "museum" from the outset, nothing adds up or rings true. I suspect this "closure" and "sell off" is a carefully staged tactic to get the ATO off their back.

My Wife and I used to buy Collectable art from some prestigious auction houses. It was at one auction that I noticed I was being bided up from the auction house staff. I planned to bid up the staff and drop the lot on them. The auctioneer released I knew and I was lucky enough that I dropped it and the hammer dropped on the staff bid. I was later approached after the auction and told the bidder pulled out and was offered the piece as an under bidder. I gave them a low ball offer stating I knew what they were doing and they politely accepted the offer

Yep, I always reckon there are staff in the crowd pretending to be genuine bidders at these auctions.

Especially all those tv auction shows you watch.

Here is a very similar story to yours.......

A work mate went to an auction in Brisbane around 12 years ago. He was bidding on a used CAT 16M Grader at the time.

Auction ended up being between he and another bidder. My mate Tom saw the other guy who was bidding and he could tell from his body language after a while that he was not a genuine buyer.

Tom said he drove that bid up to around $60K more than the grader would ever be worth and dropped it onto old mate lol. They must have thought Tom was crazy bidding up to that price.

Tom said he didn't move from his spot because he knew soon after they would come and find him to offer the grader to him at his last bid.

He politely told them to **** off as he knew what that their bidder was up to. He then went on to accuse them of driving the prices up at their auctions with staff people pretending to be genuine buyers etc.

They denied it all of course and were quick to offer him back his bidding registration fee of around $250 from memory.

I forgot who the auctioneers were, but Tom said he will never go to another one of their auctions again.

Unless you can spot the staff bidders, they all do it.

Its amazing how many suspect lots get sold and hammered, but you check the post auctions results list later they come up unsold. I even had one auction house that we consigned too tell me that I should bid on my own lot to help bring the price up and if the bid ended on mine they would pass it in. This auction house does not exist anymore (Mossgreen)

That's exactly how it works Steve...We used to run a large Antique and Decorative Arts business where we lived in Auction houses both here and in the UK....I've bought pieces directly off the auctioneer that were supposed to be auctioned that day...They still went through the auction with plenty of frenzied bidding then being sold with me sitting back relaxed knowing that I had already done a deal on the piece....They do it all the time, you just need to know them well plus sling them some cash.....Job done....I even used to do deals with Bonhams when they were in Sydney...They are all the same...I suspect Lioyds are no different....

I'm sure they all do it.

We haven't purchased via an auction in a long time. We do now exactly what you have done. Our last Art pieces ( 2 x Tim Storrier) we purchased direct via the auction house prior to auction. They are happy to deal as long as they still get a commission.

Who could be bothered with it. Auction cars are just that anyway. If you really want a car, buy it privately and go without the nonsense. Pay the guy and drive it home the end.

    Even with Chinese tyres?

“The car sits on lovely Cromodora's with V or VR rated Chinese tyres which still manage to keep up with any other fast driver.”

Perhaps that had to do with driving irresponsibly on public roads [emoji849]
