Can we put all info/views/comments on this model(due later this year)on this thread ?
I'm not totally clued up on this car but going by the rumours, this standard V8/V6? model will have more power than any of the standard V12 models? That's a first isn't it?
This one is the V8 - new top of the range rear-mid engine car (the next generation car following the current V8 range, 458/488/F8, expected to be a V6). Although presented as a special series (and initially supposed to be limited), the F40 was actually unlimited (with more than 1,300 produced) and also exceeded the power of the contemporary flat-12.
I've understood that the F173 will not be limited, however the platform may spawn a limited Icona variant which some suspect will be the new F40.
Not sure what I was thinking, it obviously says V8 in the thread title. So yes the Big Brother will have higher performance numbers than anything else in the current range? And expected in May? Sidenote: some fantastic insider and general knowledge on this forum!
That's what has been leaked here indeed... The price will also match the level of performance, apparently.
@ScrappyB Yes, It won't be limited. From the Q4 2018 Results Earnings Conference Call: Louis Camilleri: "Enrico mentioned a car in the range that was - had super car performance that will be unveiled this year. The sales, the actual sales hitting the market will be in early 2020, so they do not affect the '19 numbers but clearly will have a big impact on the 2020 numbers as we anticipate the margin on that model will be considerably superior to the one on the 812" Max Warburton: "Got it. And Louis just to confirm..." Louis Camilleri: "Does that answer your question?" Max Warburton: "It does. It could be great to have a follow-on on the product question. Is it a series production car, it will have a full normal production lifecycle?" Louis Camilleri: "Yes."
Based on the 488 replacement thread, the F173 is a completely new platform....is the 'v6 true 488 replacement in 2021' going to use the same platform as the F173 (ie they swap v8 for v6) or is it another new platform Also it was said that the F173 is going to be significantly more expensive (base price around price of a well specced 812) ....if that's the case, what is the pricing expectation for the 812 replacement....presumably that will move up significantly too?
The new "modular" platform should be the same for all models as far as I understand, that's the reason for being modular. The new BB will be the real high performance top of the range, as it is acknowledged the V12 and front engine layout are not best adapted for this purpose. So this does not tell anything about the 812 replacement in terms of pricing; but the definition might be more "GT" oriented for the V12 in the future. There could be 812 successor at similar pricing, with new V12 "Icona" to fill the higher price brackets.
Cheers, the modular approach makes sense Though still unclear about v12 positioning, will be odd that a v12 will sit below a v8 in terms of performance and price...which is going to be the case with the BB vs the 812...for the 812 successor can't imagine that it would sit alongside...just doesn't work for the v12 imagine...for every brand and throughout ferrari history (as far as I know) v12 was always on the top If they go above the v8 then has to be 1000 hp and close to 1mm price tag....which then again puts the question where will the hyper car be I am sure they thought about it, just curious how
The multiple cylinder engines are not as efficient with the current technology - straight line performance is possible following the path of Bugatti but for sportiness a 12 or 16 cylinder is not able to compete with a V8 anymore.
LaFerrari and the upcoming Aston Martin Valkyrie beg to differ!!! There is nothing wrong with a N/A V12, they are not that much heavier than a TT V8, if any at all.
To get the same power from a N/A V12 than from a turbo V8 one needs a far larger engine; typically production turbo engines are very far from what is possible while V12 are close. To increase the power from the F12 to the 812, the only way was to increase capacity from 6.3L to 6.5L - while to increase power from the 488 to the F8 was just some tuning, presumably with a lot left. When F1 allowed both turbo and N/A, eventually turbocharged engines were the only way although they had only half capacity allowed (1.5L vs 3L).
That is far from true. Many things had to be changed (titanium conrods etc). This is besides the point though, which is the weight of each configuration. Not to mention their driving characteristics.
How about a V12TT? Go smaller block, get the performance gains They just need to figure out how to get the exhaust sound just right Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
No I'm impressed. I have no idea why you would need it but it's going to be a rocket. What I meant by "seriously" is like "that's crazy!"
Don't forget a 3 Million price tag can make things very light Now 400k price tag is a different story
I firmly believe Ferrari will not put the Pista engine in the BB without tuning it a little more. That V8 could well produce 800 PS. BB will have something around 740-780 PS from ICE and 150-200 PS from EM.
