The 458 Spider would be 5-6 in terms of rigidity. So much flex and shimmy, esp to the steering wheel. I had the Mc 650s spider and it was a 9/10, on par with the Perf. Slight edge to 650s.
Love the work you did to the 488, well done! From the videos I can say the modified sound is much improved. Would need rolling to comment more, but still not full of character mid to top.
Yes you're right, the steering wheel is movement is quite annoying....its my single biggest critic. Would you stay say its your favourite or at least the most fun to drive?
I was in Vegas and got to drive a Huracan at SpeedVegas. I didn't choose the 488 because I have a 458 and had never driven a Lambo. When the 488s were on the track, I was incredibly disappointed with the sound. The instructors tell you when to switch gears, so maybe they weren't running them high in revs, but I didn't think the cars sounded good at all. No "silk ripping" glory that you hear in the 458 - that amazing shedding sound. Too bad. I was impressed with the Huracan, but my instructor said the 458 is a much better car. Also, they tried the McLarens and it didn't work out. They said they are not "work horses" like the Ferraris and Lambos. Too much downtime. Good to know.
Good note and agree....the turbos can never sound as good as pure NA. I just put full system IPE (headers, test pipes and exhaust) on my Speciale, and when I close my eyes I swear I hear Formula 1.... Sent from my 16M
Makes me want to get a speciale again. I sold early and one reason was the poor sound relative to Italia. Back then there were not many options to improve the sound.
Get one again!!! Such an epic car. Sound is such an emotive pleasurable experience when created properly....I just picked up a DBS to hear some glorious NA V12 music. Sent from my 16M
I had a 2011 Italia with stock exhaust....now that was hilariously tuneful! All the pops and crackles on overrun were amazing. My 16M, also stock, sounds like an F1 car! Sound is critical to the Ferrari experience.
I've owned both. The 458 is truly amazing. The 488 is fast - and yes, it's still a Ferrari - but it certainly seems to be lacking a little when it comes to delivering that certain something that makes you fall in love with a Ferrari. The 458 is simply a very hard act to follow. I think the only chance the 488 has would be to use an exhaust design similar to that of an F40 (e.g. straight pipes, no cats). As it's delivered stock, it just doesn't sound all that great. I think Ferrari's hands are somewhat tied these days by EPA and sound regulations also. For me, especially when driving at higher speeds, the 458 Italia felt like my partner - and a very able one. With the 488, I felt I was always battling against the car and could never completely trust, nor enjoy it. After returning from driving the 458, I always felt like all my problems had melted away and was always smiling and in a great mood. Returning from driving the 488 always just left me somewhat irritated and with a headache - as such, I sold the 488 in short order after taking delivery of it. I don't miss the 488. I do miss the my beloved 458. Ray
I’ve never had a 488, so I couldn’t compare. I did, however, put a FabSpeed exhaust system on my 458 Spider. Late this afternoon, I finally took the car on I-75 and was able to, ahem, let it loose a bit. Sound is incredible at higher rpm’s! And yes, the 458 will melt your problems away!!
9100rpm w full Novitec is a banshee - pure bliss. 488 sounds horrible stock. With a proper exhaust, sounds much better. Still the 458 w Novitec screams.
Some 488 owners go out of their way to try and claim the 488 sounds great and that 458 owners are just crybaby’s who cant let go. Having had all, I just laugh as they don’t get what made a ferrari so epic. These new mclarenferraris bore me.
