Exactly. How many times has say Renault come and gone? Had they stayed full time they'd have received heritage money also.

I know but that is not the point...Heritage money is paid for race teams who were there continuously and not for those showing up every half century to show the others how it is done ;)

Usually in business any reward is performance related , and not based on seniority.

The alternative is obviously a fairer repartition of the money, purelly based on results, and not for the years of participation.

I know that fairness and F1 cannot fit in the same sentence.

If the organisers only care for their longer participants, that gives the wrong message to teams that could be interested to join F1, and puts other teams in a certain disadvantage.

To be honest, I cannot see how anyone can defend such a skewed system, which was initially introduced as a bribe.

So you think that a company coming new into F1 outspending all the others winning the title should be rewarded with a repartition purely on the latest results?
The heritage payment can be seen as a repartition on the results over the last 50 years, that seems fairer to me than just last years result.
You were critical yourself about the manufacturers coming and going over the years but yet you want a system that encourages this behavior...

Do you have Foxtel 4k??? If so, you're in luck.

(Foxtel 4K is available to satellite subscribers with an iQ4 set-top box.)

Fox Sports to broadcast whole F1 season in 4K

Fox Sports has confirmed that this year’s Formula 1 season will be telecast in ultra high definition on Foxtel 4K.

While the broadcast of the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix in 4K had already been advertised by the pay television network, it has now committed to doing so for every session in 2019.

“We can’t wait to broadcast Formula One races in 4K Ultra HD on Foxtel 4K, starting with the Australian Formula One Grand Prix,” said Peter Campbell, Head of Fox Sports.

“Fans already love our proposition of broadcasting every Formula One practice, qualifying and race live with no ad-breaks during racing, so we think they will enthusiastically embrace this new innovation of 4K Ultra HD which takes the viewing experience to the next level.”

Fox Sports has also confirmed that it will cover the F1 season launch at Federation Square next Wednesday, to be fronted by Jessica Yates and Mark Webber

F3 has implemented this aero philosophy for their 2019 cars by keeping the aero simpler than 2018 so other cars can follow more closely. I have the article but not at my computer at the moment.

Let's hope the 2021 rules address this issue.

F3 to introduce limit downforce to improve racing

The new Formula 1-supporting Formula 3 championship will limit downforce during races to encourage closer action.

Speaking to the FIA’s Auto magazine F3’s technical director Didier Perrin confirmed drivers will only be allowed to use maximum wing angles during practice and qualifying. “We’re going to limit the downforce of the cars for the races,” he said.

“For free practice and qualifying, the drivers can use the full potential of downforce, but for the race we will reduce it by limiting the angle of the rear wing to make sure the braking distance will be slightly longer.”

The series hopes the changes will improve the quality of racing in the championship while ensuring it provides valuable experience for aspiring F1 drivers.

F3 revealed its new Dallara-designed chassis at the final round of the GP3 championship, which it has replaced. Drivers will still be able to use DRS, but there will no longer be any restrictions on how frequently they can activate it. The new car’s engine is largely unchanged from the 400bhp 3.4-litre Mecachrome V6 used in the GP3/16 chassis.

And left many times too, hence they shouldn’t get heritage payments. Mostly, they supplied engines on occasion

Because they have been tasked with making rules, so that's what they do. And, the more complex the rules the smarter the rule makers look. It is the same everywhere.

I'm with you. Aero should be limited to a single plane front wing no wider than the center of the front tires, and a single plane rear wing no wider than the center of the rear tires. Both fixed and of moderate size. There should be no barge boards, winglets, flip-ups, etc. If I can grab it with my hand it should be broken off. Provide cars with a standard-issue set of mirrors. And get rid of the floors that are nothing but planks. As a consolation, I would let them keep the halo.

Then as you say, focus on mechanical grip. And simplify the tire selection; hard, soft, inter, wet and keep the compound the same through the season. That would make the character of each track's surface a factor in the race that the drivers and team would have to overcome rather than the tire maker.

Lol...I said it earlier in the thread, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gasly suddenly be out of his seat and replaced by Kvyat again (providing he drives like he did in 2015). I don't think RBR particularly wanted Gasly in the top seat yet or at all, he's had a couple of good races (Notably Bahrain last year) but that's really it. I think Verstappen will wipe the floor with him , akin to Alonso and Vandoorne last year...
