Red Bull are down on power. The new DRS will make them vulnerable i think. Did u think the balance of the car was good? For me at times it was not
I really hope Bottas gives Elton trouble all season. So glad to see Verstappen/Red Bull/Honda on the second row. Podium could be possible for them tomorrow. Haas, impressive, hope they don't make the same mistakes as last year.
I've not seen much of practice. I don't know if they've been doing long runs only, like they seemed to do so well in closing stages of season last year....look at Brazil for example, Verstappen was .5 down in qualifying and the car didn't look too good all weekend, but in the race was immensely strong, on a track that really shouldn't have suited them power wise. Here he is .8 down but on a longer track. Who knows. My faith in Ferrari has dropped to a low point.
More BS from team MB, sandbagged the whole time. MB have produced another monster and all we will hear is that LH is the GOAT whilst he is sitting in a car that would make everyone on the grid look like a WDC; combined with a confirmed wingman who will do nothing but block should that unlikely need arise...Ferrari developed an evolution of a car that finished second when they needed a revolution. Looks like I won’t be going to a Montreal this year; maybe Austin for the MotoGP which is far more exciting than F1...
Ferrari is sandbagging. First lap Leclerc will spin into Lewis, Vettel will lead until last lap, of which he will spin into Verstappen. Afterward Verstappen will hunt down Seb and get into a furious fist fight while Kimi calmly observes in the background while eating ice-cream.
The whole thing really is a load of ****. I won't lie, I will probably still watch some but unless things change, I won't be following like i did the last year. It's just not fun to see Ferrari getting the **** kicked out of them and then have everyone saying how great Hamilton is when he is in a car that is miles better.
+1 this is way too early with too many interesting match-ups not to follow a bit longer. Stroll......gosh he just might get things done lol
The only REAL problem last year for Mercedes was rear tire wear. They were never slow. The circuit specific issues seemed related to that in general. They stayed with a lower rake vs Red Bull and Ferrari. What do they appear to know that others dont is my question. From an aereo perspective they seem to have a more flexible package, based on a post from the BBC yesterday I started a thread with. Worth a read.....
Mercedes and the art of throwing pie in everyone's face - http://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/26278323/mercedes-art-throwing-pie-everyone-face
It all comes back to the start of the hybrid ****...Mercedes where so far ahead of the rest, no one was allowed to upgrade....by the time they could, the rest came near merc's OLD spec engine, whilst merc upgraded from all the things they learned. Each time the rest caught up with the stupid system the FIA/F1 invented, Merc was again a step ahead. What we have now is STILL a trickle down effect. Merc could afford to take their time with the engine more, and spend more resources on aero, chassis and bribery.
Based on the design philosophy chosen, long term development is affected. The BBC article yesterday was very interesting. Ferrari and Mercedes have power both. The key is the development of such closely matched teams. The aero matters and the range you have to work with is key. Again they keep saying so much the last month how 'driveable' is the Ferrari. No its how fast it goes and its adaptability to a given circuit with respect to the power you put down, tires and set up compromise. Mercedes today appear to work better. In Bahrain maybe Ferrari find the set up key needed. The margins are thin and a small chase of set up in the wrong direction and there you are in P5 and not P2 or P1. So now we have the team element to compensate or create gaps.
Yes I agree Ferrari have caught up power wise, but the trickle down effect is still in place. Mercedes has had more time to optimize their entire package...a good engine, aero or chassis doesn't a great car make, it has to be a combination of all things. Because of all the times Mercedes has been ahead, they have that edge in their pocket. F1/FIA spends too much time trying to please their precious manufacturers. They ignore everyone else.
The thing is, Merc clearly have have a superior car by some margin... again. That was clear yesterday. Ferrari will now always be fighting from a deficit and its going to be hard always oull the rabbit out of the hat. All thing being equal, Merc will always win. They have to make a mistake or Ferrari have to something special. Not a good place to be. It’s so funny how every year we hear Toto and the gang spew the bs about how theyre behind and blah blah blah. I made a joke that when they say that, it really means they KNOW they’re a couple tenths quicker. Not a joke anymore I guess.
The entire paddock was voicing the Ferrari is better more balanced and easier to drive for all of testing..........
At least we have the WEC 1,000 km Sering race and the Sebring 12 Hour race this weekend to look forward too.
