Ping schming. It takes 5x longer to load the page than before, which was less than a second. When typing (this) the print can take a second to appear on the screen. It's dragging an anchor somewhere. It takes six seconds for the fast navigation window to load, and a similar time to switch pages.

the only language Bill Gates ever learned and it did do him a fat lot of good. Maybe he was just smarter than you?
Your correct from the perspective of single user apps but not when there are millions, which is my world. I won customers in telco billing because most of my competitors used java (again interpreted) and we used C++. Today I'm living the pain of a platform built in Ruby that is very difficult to scale. Users on a banking dashboard won't wait 30 seconds for a screen to load, so we're rewriting chunks of it in Go. I'm not wildly happy but it is faster. When I mention Assembler to my (mostly graduate) engineers, they look at me with incomprehension. OTOH that tends to be their standard response to anything but "free beer and pizza"
