There were 2 Pista's at the Melbourne GP , SILVER AND RED. Both looked great and were involved at the Ferrari owners lab. Unfortunately someone forgot to tell them they could drive fast and rev the engine. Was looking forward to it but alas they drove so slowly Next was the the lambo's turn and boy you could hear them. They did sound great. Obviously they got another memo or their ego's are bigger
Nah, basically a different car: The tweaks include a new aero package with a larger wing and dive planes, new suspension hardware, magnesium wheels, and upgraded brake pads, fluids and stainless-steel lines. https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/a24524341/porsche-911-gt2-rs-nurburgring-manthey-racing/
Not sure why all the focus toward placing the 2rs as being unfairly advantaged. Those behind this thinking clearly have not driven the car and are taking shots from the grandstand based upon assumptions and/or experiences from driving past 911's. This thing drives on a level I've never seen from ANY 911. Drive it and I can guarantee you'll be eating your words and telling me how BS good it is and, why it is so damn tough to beat. It's mad fast. I would take my hat off to any car that can beat it as easy as some of you here would like to think. I'd love to see Pista run rings around it but at this stage I honestly can't see how.
Since I own one, along with a 720s, I can tell you shadowfax is absolutely spot on. The GT2RS is very fast. Power is very linear without any head bump on gear shifts and it just keeps pulling, no lag. Best p-car I have driven! It also has a much deeper throaty exhaust without the turbo whine of the 720s. I know a lot of dealers were playing the ADM game but for those lucky enough to score one they are absolutely going to love it. No one will be disappointed with it, guaranteed. The N2 Cup 2s are great but for fun I will try the Rs for the next set. I have a few track days scheduled for the 720s coming up so it will be fun to get back into a mid-engine car as well.
It's on Cup2 R tyres - this will give a noticeably quicker laptime than the cup 2's. Ultimately I think they're all crazy fast in this group and you're not getting out of a GT2RS and saying it needs more. The comparison data collected to date against the pista https://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/ae4bc04lln0p
For those of you who are not on the McLaren forum this is an interesting thread regarding top speed of various cars. Chiron at 259 mph, GT2RS at 219 mph, 720s at 216 mph...Any fchatters been to this place? https://www.mclarenlife.com/forums/mclaren-720s/96147-720s-hit-216-081-mph-today.html
A few of you are misunderstanding my point. I am not having a go at the GT2 RS I love the car they are fantastic, I was merely pointing out it was suppose to be a fair fight between all the cars as standard and it clearly was not.
That is the MR version. I understood the car in the test simply had an alignment performed by Manthey. To be fair, they should have allowed the Pista to get a track alignment done as well as run the same rubber. Manthey intends to come back with the MR to see if it can beat the Senna’s time.
Agree the competition are all so crazy fast now with so much power but it's 2rs's balance and the sheer precision of the controls - how every nut and bolt feels to be working in perfect symphony together - is what really sets this car apart. The tyres allow the chassis to be further exploited but don't feel to be substituting or making up for any deficiencies in the chassis/engineering. The Germans really set the bar high on this car. It's an absolute monster. ....very tough act to beat. No fixer you're fine, didn't think you were having a go personally. Was only pointing out how some underestimate just how much of a scalpel the 2 is in the current company. Pista is undoubtedly very fast and an amazing machine - will be able to report further on that as an owner very soon! But my money remains on the 2 still as the real track weapon until convinced otherwise. PS BG23 the times on that link leave a lot open unless they are based on same day same driver. Sometimes that stuff has to be taken with a big grain of salt.
SIngle data points on different days/drivers/conditions gives a "noisy" result. However multiple data points start to create a trend. I am not sure there is enough data, but I'd be comfortable with the idea that the pista is quicker in a straight line and quicker on alot of (not all) tracks.
Truly hope you're right BG but not going to hold high hopes - and I'll have both in my stable so no dog in the fight you could say. I think I can safely say which is going be the more durable and reliable to bring to a knife fight tho.
Pista Vs 2RS - I bet the 2RS will keep going round and round consistently, but not the Pista before some light comes on although you probably had your share of fun in it already
Nah probably wouldn't have. I'm usually the last to leave. The only lights I want to see on on my Pista will be the headlights.
You own both dogs..you can't loose! I am happy to lap them both for comparison When does you pista arrive? Glad to hear you're enjoying your GT2RS - mega car!
June July I'm told. Hopefully earlier. Got a 3rs inbound June as well so will be spoiled for choice you could say. 2rs is a dragon slayer - amazing - but looking forward to getting amongst it in Pista! Beautiful car!
Yup - pretty well sums it up. But Pista won't gather too much dust I can assure you that much. My philosophy is cars like this need to be driven and enjoyed!!!
I know him personally and he's a great driver, i'm sure he'll do them all justice. edit: didn't see the results so have removed my predictions!
The tyres are a factor that's too often overlooked; the GT2RS achieved the Ring lap with Cup2R tyres but for a while these tyres were not available on the cars Porsche gave for testing - they were probably too confident. Without these magical tyres the 2RS failed to achieve a really great lap when tested by french mag Sport Auto on the Bugatti Le Mans track, by professional racing driver Christophe Tinseau who knows perfectly the track and sets all lap times for the mag. The GT2RS with regular Cup2 tyres was beaten not only by the 720S and the Huracan Performante, but also (by a tiny margin) by the 488 (on Cup2 tyres, not on its standard MPSS).
The 2RS was developed by Porsche with the idea of making it more driver friendly. This was a direct change from earlier 3RS of various vintages that were not as driver friendly! The 2RS represents a new driving philosophy from Porsche.
The 2RS 'driver friendly' design direction was the work of Frank Walliser who was at that time the head of Porsche Motorsports. They must have liked his work as he was later promoted to replace August Achleitner who for TWO DECADES was the head of the Porsche sports cars (911 718) division. Frank Walliser will however retail his role as head of development for Porsche 911 GT models and their strong connection to motorsports. Something that translates well into their strong competitive performances lately on and off the track!
