Just want to clarify that whilst 55421 was the last 400i 5 Speed, there are at least five autos with higher serial numbers.
The last 400i is 55523, a black/beige auto currently in Germany.

Wow, except for the painted bumpers, that looks fantastic. And blu medio looks great on the car. Easy fix on the bumpers too.

I sure wish mine had been saved from the addition of side markers in the rear. It looks so good without them.

Interesting cat with cherry bomb center exhausts. That is exactly what mine had on it when I got it. Mine also was from Calif in 1985 w/BAR and I have its old Calif plate.

I wonder what it will go for? I also didn’t see a price or did I miss it?

If you were going to spend that much in repairs, wouldn't you go ahead and replace/repaint the hood struts?

Does anybody know the history of this car? There are a few other 400 5 speeds for sale right now. Any personal knowledge of any of these?
I'm an hour away from the blue Fantasy Junction car and if I go see it I won't be able to help myself. I've been looking for quite awhile.

According to the Fantasy Junction website, which shows the car as sold as of April 19, the car was delivered to Brescia in March, 1985 and then quickly imported to southern California and federalized, where it remained with the same owner until 2017. The car was essentially dormant from 1998-2017 so the next owner is the one who spent the $40K plus on the recommissioning. Believed to have original paint except for bumpers and a bit in the front end. Original interior. Late series 400i with a 412 rear suspension.

So, Mike Brown, are you the new owner? Inquiring minds want to know!
