Who else would you like to see "test" the Mercedes . . .

So George Russell, who could barely get out of his own way with the Williams, goes fastest in the Bahrain test when given the keys to the Mercedes. My question is, who does this expose (Other than the Williams team as being truly awful)? Does it expose Hamilton as no big deal? The list goes on . . .

 

It would be interesting to see any current F1 driver in the Mercedes. Oh and Alonso too.

 

Mick did a 1:29.9 in the Alfa which is faster than Giovinazzi's Q1 lap and on par with Kimi's Q1. Was .9 off Kimi's Q3 time. Granted different track conditions etc but still pretty damn impressive as I highly doubt they were doing any super low fuel qualifying runs.

No option for a multiple of drivers.

I would like the following to test the W10 in qualifying trim:

1) Seb
2) Max
3) Ricciardo
4) Alonso
5) Kimi
6) Perez
7) Ocon
8) Stroll
9) Norris

And see if most of them (top 7) can match or better Lewis's qualifying at the Sakhir circuit.

Lewis's quali time was a 1:28.109.

Russells time was a 1:29:09 (don't know if in quali trim or access to "strat mode 4"--> haulin @ss mode).

 

I would add Hulkenberg to this list.

 

They won’t let a proper driver (a) test it and (b) anyone have access to a qualifying spec in conditions matching the race weekend, as they know full well a good driver would match Elton, and a great driver will eclipse him. Put alonso in the Mercedes alongside Elton and watch the fireworks, I’ll pay his wages to see that!

I would so love for Michael to recover and return..... imagine him in his prime in that car, he’d wipe seconds off the best lap by any of the current crop of chickens

 

Well, yes that is the dream. However as of now, it would be nice for him to recover, and return to coach Seb. And then Mick.

 

I think Max will sign on to be with Mercedes next year if the RB continues to be a dog by mid-season.

- So Russell sets a time ~1 second slower than Lewis using the C5 compound (that's two steps softer than what was used in Bahrain qualy) on different day with different conditions.
- Sergio Perez was 2nd in the Racing Point - ahead of the Ferrari and over .5 second faster than his own qualy time...

So, what useful information are we to take away from this ? Not very much...

Lol, Mercedes knows very well the value of their 100 million dollar man...they are not in the business of charity.
We already saw Alonso/Hamilton matchup...with the rookie equaling an perhaps edging slightly an Alonso at the height of his powers. And Lewis is an even stronger driver these days....

Maybe. I think it was when he had Nico. Believe he’s mellowed now and ultimately not as quick. I offer Oz as my example. Last time a teammate outqualified him there; Button.

 

Hamilton has lost some raw aggression, for sure, but the speed is still there, IMO.

 

There is not enough gears in a current F1 car for Vin Diesel's standards.

 

I think he has matured, rather than lose the aggression. He knows when to do and what to do. I cannot recall when was the last I saw him getting involved in an incident which is his fault. Compared that with the vs Felipe Massa years.
