Would you rather 458+599 / F12?

So as the title suggests, I have owned my 2007 Ferrari F430 coupe for 3 years here in HK and it’s time to look for the next stage; so do I buy a 458 Italia and 599 GTB or for a little more money do I buy one F12 and call it a day?

Prices in HK means a 2011 458 Italia is roughly 200k usd, used 2008 599 GTB 130k usd and just one 2014 F12 around 380k usd.

So you see 458 + 599 = 330k usd. Is just one F12 worth the extra money and is it “better?”

 

458+599. Two for the price of one and far less depreciation than the F12.

Cant comment on which is better or not; only been a passanger in a 458 on track and compared to my 348...well both built by ferrari, both mid engine v8s and both have four wheels and two doors. And there the similarities end!!!!

 

I would go F12, more modern tech and living in HK it's prolly more a weekend/event drive for you in which case you don't really need two exotics. Factor in the cost of maintenance/out of warranty expenditures on the 458 and 599 and the F12 will likely be a less stressful ownership experience.

 

What a fantastic decision to be making! I love all three cars. I’ve been pondering adding a 458 or 599 so I’ve been thinking a lot about those cars. I would rather have a 458 and an 599. Both are beautiful, and both fulfill different driving desires. Have your mid engines track car and your v12 road trip car. Plus you can get two different colors so you have more to enjoy.

 

I like the idea of the depreciation being less as both the 458 and 599 have more years on them than the F12

Best of both worlds, 458 for the newer, smaller nimble mid-engine and then the 599 for a bit more torque and comfort. And I guess theres the fact that its going to get harder in the future to get a nice 599 if I pass up the chance now since the car is around 10 years already.

F12 would fit all those boxes but then its costs more and also will depreciate more. I think I have answered my own question, if I go down the route of owning 458+599, I guess I could always upgrade the 599 afterwards since the F12 is much newer and more available.

 

Actually I have been daily driving my F430 and GTR to work every day and my job means that I drive around HK a lot as well to get to meetings etc so there enough opportunity to drive the cars during the week and then I drive the Merc on weekends with my wife and 2yr old.

 

Ive been in HK traffic numerous times. I give you credit for tackling the traffic with an F-car. The exotic owners I know go to mainland China to track/stretch the legs of their exotics.

 

Hong Kong is an amazing city, but sometimes not the best place for a Ferrari hence why I also have a Nissan GTR, there are some car parks you just cannot drive into because of the steep ramps or narrow entrances, even a front lift would not help you in a supercar. Friends have been telling me to buy a 991 GT3 but it just doesn't give me what Ferrari has to offer I feel.

Of course you cannot push the car in the mid-levels/central areas and certainly not after-work on Friday night but there are other places around

 

Two Ferrari’s give you more diverse experience. I thought about this scenario and I voted for two lesser expensive cars vs 1 more expensive car.

Also depends on your garage.

Also I have a 991 GT3, its not the same as an exotic but I saw a lot of 911s in HK.

 

I have been here 5 years now and drive daily all of my cars. I am always up for meeting new friends in HK so if people do come here then by all means shoot me a message [emoji6]

Regards the garage; after selling the F430 my garage consists of a GTR and Merc S Class hence the thinking behind this trend.

Seems more people are behind the idea of 458+599 [emoji41]

Lots of Porsche here in HK, I have tried my friends 991 CS and it’s a great car to drive but my GTR has much more punch [emoji41] less steering feel tho

Godzilla is a beast. Gets mad respect in Asia I imagine.

 

I’m pushing 650bhp in the GTR it’s much faster than my F430, it’s all about the power and then the diffs, you can feel the car fighting for traction under the car as you drive fast.

I happen to want a 458 and 599 - to me, two of the best modern Ferrari's made. I much prefer a 599 to an F12. Now, if you can do a Speciale and 599 HGTE, you'd be styling

I’ve had both the 458 and 599, and I’d say, get them... warranties sort out any large expenses (and both are reasonably bulletproof), and as many have already said, there is surely to be a correction in f12 values at some point, just as 599 held its value pretty well until 2010/11 and then began a faster drop. That said, F12 is a fantastic car, very easy to drive, and all the reasons for the V8s (nimble, easier to park, easier to see out of, more racy) actually can be applied to F12, so it would be difficult, but there’s nothing like looking in your garage and seeing two f-cars and wondering which goes out today..... I had it for many years and the novelty never wore off. Also, chicks become way easier when you drive them back in a ferrari, open the garage to park, and they see another one!

 

I don't see any reason to own a 599 at this point. If you keep the GTR for small engine fun then the best compliment would be the beauty and power of the F12.

 

That’s a fair point since the F12 is a good combination of 458 and super GT.

GTR is a different type of car, it doesn’t have the precision of a Ferrari 458 or the luxury of a 599/F12, it’s a remarkable car in its own right and anyone who says GTR is boring hasn’t driven it beyond 5k rpm; it definitely is in a category of its own.

I agree, it’s a monster, and in a class of its own. Definately wouldn’t not add a ferrari because of it though, it’s like not bothering to eat steak on Fridays because I you have sushi Monday thru Thursday...... you still would enjoy the steak, maybe more if it’s the right cut

 

F12, no question!

 

I just had an F12 in the shop today. 2015 car. I must say, I had forgotten how good these cars are. Damn fast, makes all the right sounds, and feels so much better on the road then the 599.

It kinda reminds me of a really high powered 550. Ferrari really screwed these cars down right. Not annoying rattles, no plywood with wheels feel to the chassis, just a great driving machine. Yes, it's big, but it certainly doesn't feel like it behine the wheel.

Prices here in the US are quite different.
Its possible to get a decent F12 for 225-250K. They have depreciated quite a bit since the 812 came out. Lucky us.

A similar condition 599 would be around 150K.
A 458 about 180K.
So if you can get a 458 AND a 599 for less than a F12 to me thats a slam dunk.

Buy an F12 when depreciation has had more effect.

 

What about a 458 and a 550? That is my goal. I have the 550 already, trying to get a 458 within the next few years. Modern DCT 458 and the last manual only V12 Ferrari! That said, I’d go 599 and 458! Having a Ferrari V12 and V8 is something impressive.
