Ania is interviewing for Doctor jobs in the UK (its someplace where her license is valid and they speak English for little old me)....so off we go. Summer in the Rockies first, but then to the UK in the fall. Pretty excited (except for the weather).
I'll probably look at places in Scottsdale next fall. My truck was at the dealer all day getting recalls done and oil change. Decent Japanese near the dealer, so stopped for sashimi and scallop rolls take out. My Ford loyalty rewards meant the oil change was free. They even washed it, despite the on/off rain today.
Doctor and expert bagel maker?!? Oh man, you have hit the lottery! I lived in England for 4 months as a young man (Bristol). Loved it. Their sports are a bit wacky, but the people are friendly. Best of luck to you both in the UK. Very exciting. T
So April 10 marks the closing of a true Institution, Don & Charlie's, here in Scottsdale. This place is simply fantastic. Not the Scottsdale fake boob and sugar daddy and d-b vibe, rather its more families, out of town visitors in casual clothes, and some of the retires that live around here. Overall the level of dress here is many levels below the other steak houses in town. Put simply, its unpretentious in a town that is renown for its pretentiousness. They are best known for their great "charred" ribs, "broasted" chicken, and above all fantastic beef. (I've posted their chicken and ribs previously) We have been going 1-2x per week since we first heard they were closing back in January. Sadly, last night was our last visit. We normally order only 1 meal and share it and still have leftovers for 1-2 people the next day. Last night, being our last time, we ordered two dinners and have about 2/3rds of it left for tonight and tomorrow. Ania ordered the 16oz Filet Mignon and I got the 16oz NYC Strip. Both were cooked rare and both pass the "literally melt in your mouth" tenderness test. They get more char and tastier seasoning on beef than pretty much anywhere. And their aging process and beef sources result in as tender beef as you will find. We also got roasted mushrooms and creamed spinach as well. To start, we ordered their take on Shrimp Scampi (covered with bread crumbs and put under the broiler). Great cocktails. Great service. Great food. Fair prices. Amazing sports memorabilia collection on display...this place will be missed. I'm a steak lover and have made trips to some of the nation's best solely to eat their beef and ordered from most of the famous butchers in the country. And, I have to say, based on my experience, this is at the very top of my steakhouse rating. (there is a hotel going in where they are located, and there are rumors they may re-open in the hotel someday. If they do, please visit them when in Scottsdale.) Sadly we were busy chatting up a storm and enjoying tex mex so no pictures. However I did enjoy some amazing Chimichangas with a fellow member Tom! Thank you for joining me Tom and telling me a little more about TX. Was great meeting you!
I had prime rib at Saltgrass tonight with a friend. No pics though. Didn't eat it all so I've got leftovers. I also took the bread. Saltgrass isn't the best, but it was good.
So, why they closing? Retiring? Rents too high? Bought out? That's some classic, top shelf, steakhouse grub there! T
I almost pulled a Max, and forgot to snap pics of dinner with F-Chat's very own Tamas! He's in the Metroplex working. At the risk of embarrassing Tamas, he's a young man who's got his s**t together, and I was having such a great time chatting with him, I almost forgot to snap a pic. Image Unavailable, Please Login Pork adobada, almost finished. Nice and red. Not too spicy. I enjoyed it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Have to use your imagination people! That WAS chimichangas! I'm guessing from the state of the plate, Tamas was either starving or enjoyed it. T
Building has been bought and is being torn down to make a hotel. They are up in age and didn't want to move to another location in town. The hotel is hoping to open a new D&C's in their hotel after it opens...we shall see...
Let's not go too far Tom! It was a great chat over some great food and awesome weather. Thanks for making the drive and enjoy the syrup!
Ya we did completely forget LOL. At least we got to chat and hang out...Tex Mex was real good as well. I gotta make it out this way more often (personal vs. work).
I had a bacon cheeseburger at Fatburger last night. Tonight I'm getting ribs at our only BBQ place in town. They are decent. Going with my brother, he doesn't like anything Japanese or Id do rolls and sashimi.

We hadn’t cooked much lately (trying to hit all our favorite places before moving). So we did an inspired riff on a carrot salad we had the other day. Roasted onion, peppers and carrots. Then tossed them with some yellow raisins and a chipotle, cilantro, toasted cumin vinaigrette. Pretty darn good. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Pecan Lodge Texas . $24 for one beef rib ....Then this showed up . Mouth watering BBQ. Well worth the line and price. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I want to try them. But all the locations in Washington State are far from the places I go there. I'm taking my mother shopping at USA Costco. Since we'll be coming home around dinner. I'm thinking of trying a Mexican restaurant, its almost next to the border crossing and always busy. I forget their name for reviews.
