Just seems like the Ferrari GT crowd is either not an enthusiast (456 was decidedly not a performance car) or the talk centers around the FF/GTC (great performers, great gear box, one of the few examples of a shooting brake...)

Seems like the 612 has a lack of fandom...

I think it's a bit of an acquired taste. I didn't like them at first (still not crazy about the rear end) but they are growing on me. I think that there are many nice cars competing at the price point of a older used 612. Also, the need for a relatively expensive belt service maybe keeping some potential buyers away.
Btw...I am a fan, just not enough to buy a current prices.

I had a belt service on my 612 last year for ~$2600
    Doesn't seem expensive to me.
    Same process on 550, 575, and 599 (I think).
I very seriously doubt it is really necessary every 5 years!

599 has chains, like the F430.

There's plenty of folk who repair broken V12 motors who will soon disavow you of that notion ! I used to feel that "emotionally" but real world reality intrudes.

Evidently those buyers also stay away from buying Lexus, Audi, BMW or (((shudder))) MB lest they have to replace the air suspension at 2 to 4 times the cost of a belt replacement. (And more frequently than a belt replacement)

hmm, please do say where you had said belt service... dealer or independent?

I am getting close to that time and would like to have a bench mark.

    thanks

It was an independent. Maybe others have had a different experience?

love and market price are 2 different things, i have raved about my 09 OTO since the day i bought it. do i think it shld be worth more, yes. 612 is a beautiful car and if it had no rear seats it wld trade like a 599.

i think in general if you do a search you will find the 612 is well respected and genuinely loved by those who own one.

Last spring I had my belt service done by an Aston Martin dealer, but the mechanic is a well trained Ferrari technician who had worked for a Ferrari dealer. I paid $1885, but I did get a 15% discount, so it would have been almost $2200 otherwise. The first belt service was done by a Ferrari dealer 5 years earlier for $2350, and I might add was not done properly and had to be corrected.

Back to the original topic, in my opinion its because of the 4 seats. It has nothing to do with the car's performance. None of the Ferrari 4 seaters hold the value of their 2 seat counterparts. Its true throughout the history of Ferrari. Look at the pre-1980 cars and compare the 2 seat to the 4 seat. I happened to want 4 seats at this point in my life (plus I also have a 355 for the 2 seat fulfillment).

In my honest opinion, the car doesn't look much like a Ferrari (or at least not as much as its peers). Yes, it's definitely modeled after older Ferraris but even those aren't well known to most people. Most people see a 599 drive by and they can immediately tell it's a Ferrari, whereas a 612 blends in more. If it wasn't for the emblems, people wouldn't know. That's one of the things that I love about it. It reminds me of my E39 M5 in that regard (and in its versatility).

I had no love for the 612 aswell. Untill I took a seat in one (I was in doubt between a F430 and a 550) From the first second I loved it. 2 months later I bought mine.

    I’d pay a lot for a manual 612.

Matt, this proves that there is something for everyone! I would rather have my F1 612 than a manual. It is my semi daily driver and it is far better suited for that purpose with the F1. I also remember that you have a classic black C1 Vette (very beautiful I might add). I am looking for a C1 or C2 restomod, hopefully with a 5 or 6 speed automatic (but black would be nice). ;)

The 612 is fantastic. At 6'4", I grew tired of contorting myself into the 360 and purchased a 612 last year. One thing to keep in mind is that a photo of the 612 does not come close to doing it justice. It is a gorgeous car in person, and is an outstanding Ferrari for tall drivers.

I love my 612! In fact, I'm starting to plan a trip up into northern Idaho and possibly the Okanogan Valley with it, this summer. That's the kind of thing it's made for.

Having a 599 myself i do love the 612 i just think some of the details such as the colored lamps give it an odd look. But it has beautiful classic ferrari lines. If not Ferrari what would anyone mistake it for?
