430 Engine side cover bolts

    So I removed both parts of the left hand side engine covers to get access to the fuel pump on my 430 and two of the allen bolt heads were stripped out. Had to drill and extract one but the other came out with just pilers. What I'm wondering is what is everybody using for replacements? The bolts seemed extremely soft to me so I am hesitant to replace with stock ferrari part number bolts. I checked the local hardware store and they don't have anything that matches exactly. Anybody have a source for some quality bolts?

    I just stuck with stock from ricambi. You can put a touch of anti-seize so they don't get stuck again.

    Thanks for the replies. None of mine were in very tight it's just the hole where the allen key fits rounded out VERY easily.

    Ricambi your price is very good on the 20mm bolts but I found the 50mm much cheaper....do you price match? If so I'll order from you.

    Those bolts strips out easily. I have a couple that are in bad shape. I'm in the process of replacing them with titanium bolts.

    Yea that is why I am reluctant to replace them with OEM bolts. Where are you sourcing the Ti bolts?

    I changed mine for stainless ones and spray painted them . I think they are called flange head allen screws

    The stock oem ones are stainless steel anodized black. I don't know if you used high temp paint but it may not do so well with the heat in the engine bay.

    The ones holding the covers in my 430 were soft enough to be aluminum alloy, stainless allen heads do not turn out like that. The paint has done fine for 3 years as engine bay is not that hot with the capristo blankets on the exhaust. You can find the stainless headed screws on e bay if that is any help. - button head flange screws is the proper name,

    No offense...I don't like the idea of painted screws. My screws are stainless and I doubt they are aluminum. They weight too much to be aluminum.
    I have titanium ones coming that I will anodize. I also will replace the airbox cover screws along with the diffuser and under tray hardware.

    Same problem on my 430, the factory screws are too soft and strip easily. If someone has a better option, please post!

    Search for button head flange screws on e bay- you can just spray paint the heads. Looks exactly the same as OEM on mine. Use some high temp paint if you prefer but the normal paint is ok

    Was just dealing with the same issue trying to get the side covers off to replace the headers on my 430 where the soft bolt heads were stripped by whomever installed them last. I was able to find some stainless bolts without the flange at the local hardware store for the shorter bolts. Installed with the old washers they worked fine, but they do stand out a bit though compared to black. Looks like the flanged stainless bolts on ebay also have some longer lengths available, I may give those a try and pain them black as a more permanent solution.

    I gave up on stock button head bolts and just used a stainless steel 10mm regular bolts.

    I'm OK with plain stainless steel bolt head color as it matches my Kline Innovation Exhaust.

    Now its so easy to remove my side panels.

    hi, Daniel. As i have observed ,the 430 spider screws are totally different than the coupe ones.

    Can you do a little more research onto the spider screws? I think the one on your website is incorrect , what it lists is a washer ( https://www.ricambiamerica.com/car-diagrams/ferrari/v6-v8/430-group/f430-spider/shields-outside-finishing.html)

    The pic attached is what I observed on 2x 430 spiders, which are 2000 miles away from each other and the owners don't know each other.
    They all look like this so I think this is the screw that came from factory. Not only it is not 20mm , it has a bigger hex than the coupe version.

    on another front, as I have observed on at least 3x F430 coupes( euro market and chinese market, though), securing the engine panels are 3 types of screws

    1. the 50mm one
    2. the 20mm one
    3. somewhere in the middle, i am guessing 30mm. This screw is needed for 1 on each side, for the position where the larger panel meets the smaller panel.

    can you do a little more research on this as well, as on the website it lists only 2 types

    Those engine bay screws will just keep on stripping out.....and corrode. They are too weak for the application.

    I replaced mine with stainless steel bolts.

    Will replace it soon with Titanium bolts for even lighter and better look.

    1. I just stayed with the OEM screws.
    2. Every time I got into something with those oval-head/washer/socket head screws, I applied anti-seize to the treads before re-installing.
    3. Make absolutely certain the allen wrench is all the way down into the socket head. If it isn't the socket hex will strip.
    4. To "restore" an old screw, place the threaded part in a vise with the underside of the screw head resting on top of the vise jaws, lightly close the vise jaws on the threads, then, using a small hammer, tap the top of the hex to "forge" the peened-out top of the hex socket back into place. This should also slightly work harden the socket hex top edge.
    5. It will help to grind your allen key business end flat (eliminating the radius on the end) with sharp end edges so you get a bit more length in the effective gripping ridges (apeces (plural of apex)). This process may also help get a screw with a stripped hex socket out.

    Number 3 is crucial when removing these particular screws.

    Hey guys new here, i have a 2006 ferrari f430. Have decided to start to take even better care of my car myself instead of relying on my mechanic. I have a couple questions please excuse my ignorance. the bolts that go to the side panel where the f1 fluid goes what size are they? Secondly the f1 fluid that goes in there is the shell spirax s4 correct. thanks
