He is driving at the level of the car. And the car is better than a lot of others on the grid. I wish the Alfa, Renault, and Williams drivers could say as much.

Yep, in fact he is doing nothing else than participating in a sport he likes according to its rules.
He overcame all the hurdles to get a superlicense.
There is no rule in F1 to relegate a low scorer, and I presume the 107% rule is respected.

    Nonsense.

F1 is based on capitalism. Money rules. It'd be insane to not allow him in. F1's history is full of pay-drivers.

The entry barrier is really the F1 super license and a driver has to earn that by showing results in lower formulae, which he has done so. The FIA is basically the institution deciding whether a driver is fit for F1.

Stroll would easily be within the 107% rule even if it was still in place. He is a midfielder, no problem. There are about 14 other guys out there just like him. At least he doesn't drive backwards into a sitting car...

Unlike Maldonado, Verstappen, Ocon and a few others, I find that Stroll tends not to involve other drivers in his mistakes.

I am sure you will try to prove me otherwise.

Give the guy some slack; some of these shunts don't look his fault ! or at least are 50/50.

I agree he doesn't really crash all that often, and thankfully rarely into others.

That's about as far as the praise goes from me. I've no issue with pay drivers, so long they show they're at least competent. Had he been +- half a second quicker people wouldn't moan so much (myself included). Yes we wouldn't expect the world from him even then, but we wouldn't get the feeling he'd be holding up an expensive seat for his own satisfaction.

If you buy yourself an F1 seat as a billionaire, expect to receive some ridicule. Up to you to either suck it up or prove the naysayers wrong.

    Stroll has done neither.

A different way to look at it:

Without Stroll's dad the Pink Panther Team might already be dead or in much worse shape. His money is rebuilding the team and thus offering Perez a good seat to race in.

    that is a possibility.

But I figured I'd be blaming FIA/F1 for their idiotic rules rather. :D

I think that's the point. Stroll is rich, so an easy target for the critics. That's the way the world is.

Some second rate drivers have been holding a seat in F1 for years, thanks to a sponsor, without attracting the same level of attention because they were not wealthy themselves.

Personally, I am glad there are rich people spending money in F1, in whatever capacity, and I have no problem with that.

    Yes.

So all the ridiculing may continue, just the same as it goes for drivers deemed lesser than others:p:p:p

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few....or the one."

Yes, thank God for Strolls cash to save the team and offer Perez a drive in an F1 seat; thanks to Perez too for putting the team into admin.....but his son is the lesser of the equation. The Stroller is in a better car, 3 yrs in F1, and has managed to drop out of Q2 8x in row and is being beat by some rookies currently.

His dad MIGHT have to make a business decision and override his personal one at the end of the year; I get it, it's a Father doing what his son wants-->a billion dollar "hobby" for both at best.

The Stroller currently is being outshined by some rookies on the grid and F1 will squeeze him out.

"My visor fogged up".....I've never heard of such an excuse to miss Q2.

    How will they do that?

As long as the FIA doesn't change the rules for obtaining a Superlicense, and make a 2 years probation on F2 mandatory first*, we risk having drivers like Stroll on the grid.

    * with some results too.

    Albon & Norris.

Squeeze him out as in others will leave him behind statistically.

Ferrari pampered Massa for years when he was way past his use-by-date due to his accident. Total waste of a perfectly good seat. And you worry about a 2nd Pink Panther seat?

    Glad you brought up Massa.

Massa with William's and Stroll. Stroll still could'nt compete with Massa before and after retirement.

Not quite a fair comparison: One guy with decades of experience behind him vs a complete rookie.
