We're not there for a plastic trophy, but rather for the fun of it. We'll run as we did at Speed on Tweed some years ago - 8/10ths speed but sideways wherever possible. :)

Great, I'm hoping there'll be a few other Abarths :)

yes, a well known car built up from a 131 road car, that ran historic forest rallies some years ago.

It's not a real Abarth of course...

Hmmm this is always an interesting conundrum since Abarth were never really a manufacturer, but a 'tuner' - what's the difference between a car assembled in the Abarth workshop, and one assembled elsewhere using all Abarth parts? You know I hate replicas and my 500 is Abarth from the barrels up (which I always refer to as Abarth'd Fiat or as the Fiat club paperwork lists it, 500++); but the reality is that Abarth's mainstay was after-market modifications to standard Fiat, not a stand-alone vehicle. If it's running all genuine Abarth bits, that qualifies it to use the Abarth name IMHO as long as they're not claiming it as a 'factory' car. But then again, it's not a genuine 131 Rally, which I guess is the difference... Have to see if I can get my brickie mate to bring his genuine 131 Rally up to Noosa!

Some of the difference is that, perhaps not necessarily in Abarth's case ('cos I don't know),that there are/were 'official' modifiers of various brands.
A case in point is the 'Alpina' version of various BMW's.
I have an interest in this as,when I bought my Volvo 122s,I was guided to a modifier of these cars in the Double Bay area of Sydney....a pair of brothers.

It also turned out that they were the 'official' BMW recognised licensers of modifying different models of that brand.
The cars involved were also badged as such and sanctioned by the factory.
One came up for sale/auction very recently.

Re Abarth you may find that Jack Waldron,in Vic,may at some stage have been one of the official modifiers......but don't hold me to it.

    Karen,

FIAT bought Abarth in 1971 and it became their racing department, building all the rally cars in particular. Prior to that, yes kits that anyone could fit.

Wouldn't need to,that cars history and results record speaks for itself.
My Targa preped 122 is in the vein, raw, noisy, great handling, braking and power.
You can't compare any road car to one that's been competition preped, look at the amazingly butt ugly Lancia Delta S4....................then look at it's comp record.

didn't compare road cars. Plenty of purpose built competition cars are beautiful. IMHO the Lancia Delta has road presence and looks great.
