Yeah, everyone’s did. But I’ve always heard rumors that there was a rather rare and expensive option for an actual spare.

I've gone the Ford Taurus space saver spare route. Here's the thread on it.http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/490983-348-spare.html.
I haven't had to use the spare tire in an emergency but I tested it on my car in the parking lot and it worked ok. I also carry a new bottle of Flatfix plus a tire plug kit and a portable air compressor. For the jack, from Amazon I got a ToolShopUSA scissor jack, 1 ton, and the lifting pad of the jack fits perfectly into the lift point rectangle on a 348. I got a telescoping lug wrench at Walmart. In the thread there is mention of making a plywood floor but I haven't done that. Instead I bought two spare tire covers (like on the back of Jeep) and wrapped the spare tire in those. This let's me use the inside of the wheel for additional storage. Even with all these items, I still have room for two overhead bin size pieces of luggage with some stuff space around the luggage but I recommend measuring the space first as small overhead bin luggage is best. This luggage fits well -Travelpro Maxlite 4 International Carry-On Spinner Suitcase. Unfortunately, I had a $1,100 lesson that you lose some front air dam ground clearance when you add luggage on top of the spare tire and related equipment. I do need to sign up for AAA though. Hope some of this helps.
