Ferrari doesn't have two years...or even one year...to turn things around. F1 may not even be here in three years, and at this rate first
line drivers won't want to be in Ferraris no matter what the price. And young guys can make more of a splash in other cars along the grid.
Ferrari not only has Mercedes eating their lunch but the Honda motor is starting to beat Ferrari as well.

Interesting points. Given that my dad's family comes from 15km above Maranello, I have relatives remaining in the area, I worked for an Italian company for almost 5 years (which was difficult), I actually think that (I have lived in GB for 25ish years now) Great Britain is a better place to organize a business. And believe it or not, taxes are lower in GB than in Italy. But in principal, I agree with you Sid !!

On the flipside, Ferrari has to remain in Maranello. And building a winning team is possible. Its happened before, and it can happen again.

You forgot that Toro Rosso is also based in Italy. ;)

Fair enough, I agree 100%. But put yourself in the shoes of a German engineer, would still the UK be more attractive than Italy?

Also let's face it, in such a niche job market (F1), one should be willing to relocate once and awhile, it's part of the nature of the job.

There is not shadow of a doubt that GB is way, way better than Italy to run a business. But I believe for such a matured and niche business as Ferrari, it wouldn't have any advantages in relocating to GB.

On the flip side, all of the technology companies are in Italy. I think management is the problem, not sure they have the real long range strategic view that is needed nor the ideas that work. I knew a fellow who had an important role in Ferrari engineering during the Schumacher era. He said that Ferrari tried an idea, it failed, so they tried something else.

The company never went back to the old ideas to see if the technology may be better suited at another time. As I don't have any real first hand experience in the company, I don't know how its run.

Take it from someone that has left his home country (twice, as a child and an adult)) and lived all over...Best decision I ever made (first time wasn't my decision, of course). My best friend when I was little? Still in contact with to this day. Airplanes make this world pretty small. Italy isn't far at all to begin with. A company sources you out to work for them? They pay for you and your family to come over, schools, at least 1 family trip back home per year. End of contract/terminated early they pay for you to go back again including all your stuff.

I'm certainly not the only one that has done it. I've met more people than I ever would had I stayed put. Got experience to cultures all over the world living in these places than I would looking at them on the discovery channel or even holidays.

I met people also that put their entire life on hold, and not taking amazing opportunities because of their kid..."oh we can't leave because little Eddie has a friend, so we'll consider these opportunities again in 10 years time when Eddie is 18...." Before you know it they've got 2 more kids on the way and 21 years later they still haven't left because their kids are expecting kids.

Kids make friends. Even me with my twisted sense of humour have had no issue making friends where ever I lived. Africa? I had my own business, no colleagues. Just go out to a bar, chat some **** with people that seem relatively like minded and presto, friends are made.

I feel sorry for the people that only ever talk about leaving but never do due to weak excuses.

I left the Netherlands when I was 13. Returned at 26 and bolted when 27. For the last time. Not going back there. Expat in between all those years and will keep being one.

I was a USAF brat. We moved every three or four years while I was growing up, including Panama and Japan. Kids make friends wherever they are, so not relocating for a job because of kids makes no sense to me. I don't think SF will ever relocate to GB because of cultural factors and stubbornness, but if it would help the team, they should consider it if they're objective (Which they're not).

OT, but this reminds me of when I was a roadie on a tour in Europe back in 1983. We were playing a club in Paris and one of the club's managers was with me counting heads at the door. This super hot girl came up and started talking to him about something and it escalated into an argument, and she suddenly stormed off back into the club. He turns to me and shrugs his shoulders, "Italian girls. It's all cinema with them." :)

I'm British and proud of it. We have some of the best Motorsport engineers in the world. As had been said the majority of teams are in the UK even Mercedes stayed here. There is a good reason for that.
However why would Ferrari leave Maranello to the UK? It would not be Ferrari. I have no real idea what they are doing wrong between themselves but it needs fixing in Italy.
PS I love italy and the US but prefer to live in the UK. In fact I have no desire to live anywhere else but the UK.

Ferrari had a couple of times a technical office here in the UK. And I met up with the chappie back in those days somewhere off the M25. Not sure if it is still open. Anyone who is in the F1 supply business will make their way to Maranello.
