    I don't know, Paul Ricard has long straights that could favour Ferrari since they have good top speed apparently.

    But there will be no grass for Vettel to play with though, instead plenty of tarmaced run-off areas to catch his pirouettes.

    Probably the pace car will be a Mercedes, the stewards on Toto Wolff's payroll, so the level of FIA corruption will satisfy those affected of accute paranoia.

    These Honda engines aren't as good as Red Bull would like us to believe then, if they have already exhausted the season quota after 7 races.
    Honda may not have solved their long term reliability problems.

    At this point in the season William, with Mercedes too far ahead, what's the point now.

    Just use 2019 as they did with 2018 at STR and come back "to fight another day" (year).

    Besides, it makes the races interesting to see Max, and MAYBE Gasly, "fight" their way from behind.

    Honda still fairing better than Renault...for the moment.

    The Mercedes Formula 1 team admits it would have tried a different Canadian Grand Prix strategy had it known a cooling change would bring so much extra pace.

    Lewis Hamilton was compromised by overheating when running close behind Sebastian Vettel in the first stint.

    At his stop - which came after the Ferrari driver's - the team made a quick adjustment to give him extra cooling.

    Such changes are common practice, especially at races where straightline speed is essential and teams go to minimal cooling levels in qualifying in order to minimise drag.

    The hope had been that Hamilton would qualify on pole and run in clear air, but this was not the case as Vettel topped qualifying for the first time in 2019.

    When Hamilton's cooling compromise was removed at the stop, and after he was fitted with hard tyres, Hamilton had better pace than had been anticipated.

    Mercedes now admits that had it known that pace increase was there, it would have taken an aggressive approach and tried to undercut Vettel by pitting first.

    "We had an issue in the first stint where although he was able to match Sebastian's lap times, he couldn't really get close behind because the car was overheating a bit so he had to leave a bit of a gap," said trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin in a Mercedes video.

    That is funny and just shows the drivel Toto is telling...
    In public they mention how the Ferrari is a real treat and that the red car is favorite on this track but internally they set up the car expecting Lewis will be on pole anyway. So all this talking about Ferraris strength is only show.
    And as we already mentioned before: the Mercedes was the faster car on the hards meaning there was no way Seb would gain 5 seconds on them...

    If they would do everything right they would be still driving behind Mercedes but it would be a simple boring procession

    Help needed.

    Purchased tickets to the French F1...and accommodation in Toulon. Looked today to see transport arrangements only to find that the shuttle buses from Toulon are fully booked on Sunday.

    Does anyone have a seat available in their car...or know of other options? Of course with pay.

    Expecting to be on pole and expecting Ferrari to be a legitimate threat are not mutually exclusive. I would say he was nearly correct on both accounts...

    Pirelli has not received a single request to change its Formula 1 tyres despite suggestions it should revert to last year's specification to end Mercedes' dominance of the 2019 season.

    The introduction of Pirelli's 2019 tyres, which are 0.4mm thinner in a bid to reduce blistering and overheating, has coincided with Mercedes winning all seven races so far.

    During the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, criticism of that effect reached a new level from the likes of Ferrari and Red Bull, amid calls for Pirelli to reintroduce its 2018 tyres.

    However, Pirelli can only change its compounds if it identifies a safety concern, if the FIA requests it, or if 70% of teams are in favour of it.

    Autosport has learned that Pirelli has not received a single official request to change its tyres.

    "It is very clear how you can modify the construction or the compounds during the season," Pirelli's F1 boss Mario Isola told Autosport.

    "I didn't receive any request so far.

    "If I receive a request that is reasoned, we will consider that request. We will consider what we have to do to modify the tyres, and we will discuss that with the FIA.

    "We, Pirelli, can modify the construction or the compound, the specification of the tyre, only for safety.

    "Even if I sent a request to the FIA, to be honest I don't know what to write in that request because I cannot reason any change for safety.

    "There is no safety concern."

    Isola says that Pirelli has mostly achieved the 2019 targets that were agreed in conjunction with the FIA, F1 and teams.

    These targets also aimed to space out the performance of the compounds more evenly and increase the working window.

    Isola admits that the working window, which is one of the key limiting factors for teams struggling to get the most out of the 2019 tyres, must still be improved.

    Getting the tyres into the working window is down to a combination of factors relating to the aerodynamic and mechanical performance of the car, how that makes the tyre interact with the track surface and the energy that puts through the tyre - with circuit layout also a primary factor.

    All 10 teams had the option to trial the 2019-spec tyres for the first time in Abu Dhabi last year, with 20 sets to use to compare the last remaining choices between compounds and constructions.

    This followed the use of thinner-tread tyres, based on last year's compounds, at the 2018 Spanish, French and British GPs.

    However, despite Mercedes' performance at those races, the subsequent opportunity to test the 2019 tyres, and two weeks of pre-season testing this year - no concerns were raised about the impact the tyres could have.

    Isola stressed that equity of treatment is vital for Pirelli, which has "a clear and strict process to supply the same efforts to the team" on an operational basis.

    "How to design the car, how to generate the downforce, to design the suspension, is their job," he added.

    "We still have to work on the working range, but we did most of the job and now it's up to them to generate the energy."
