TR steering wheel removal tool

Hello everyone, while working under the dash on my TR this weekend, I reached up and accidently snapped off my wiper control stalk. After swearing a few times and accepting my fate, I need to remove the wheel to glue everything back together.

Does anyone know what tool I should use for the steering wheel nut? Does anyone have one that I can pay to rent? I don't want to spend $90 for a tool I'll use once.

you are sure only to use it once?
you may go to a F dealer and try to borrow this tool. but I think if you will even get it they charge you some and for 2 or 3 times to borrrow you could buy it

I could try making my own by cutting up a socket. This is a project I'm dreading, just because it was so stupid how I broke it.

I was hoping there was a cheap generic tool available or something.

The good news is that that ring nut size 28mm (IIRC) is also used on the cam drive sprockets of 308, 328, BB so should be easily resellable (at a discount, of course) if you don't want to keep it.

 

steve, a tool what you once have I think you never will sell it except because of the age you give up working on cars

 

Sounds like I should just buy the proper tools and not worry about making one. Any puller needed to get the adaptor hub off?

I bought the socket from UK, it was like GBP 48 or around USD 55. You need a good steering wheel puller, I broke the hub in my car even if I used a puller, it was just stuck.

Like teveo, mine required a puller to come off, but I used a harmonic damper pulley (using long M8 bolts, IIRC, that thread into the extra provided holes in the hub for this purpose) rather than a jawed puller (and often best to "load up" the puller and then give the center screw a small sharp rap with a hammer then reload and rerap if necessary, rather than just continuously gorilla torquing the center screw).

 

That's my plan If you are going to DIY on a Ferrari, you are, naturally, going to acquire a few ring nut sockets along the way...

 

Hmm I'll look into it. I can't work on it for the next few weeks sadly. So maybe I have time to get the parts in. Thank you everyone for the help.

I needed a puller for mine but the kit is dirt cheap at Harbor Freight so whatever. Worth it.
