You all likely know the punchline of this, so let me put the facts out there first; car never had cabin/trunk area gas odor prior (drove it for 1500 miles - no odor). had to remove fuel tank to get rid of corroded (ethanol culprit) rubber and sludge new pump covers, new o-ring seals been driving for past 3 weeks with all trunk carpeting removed - no leaks of fuel from pump covers...even with full tank. ONLY get (very strong) gas odor in cabin and in trunk when have full tank of gas. i put my nose up against each pump cover and NO SMELL near covers. I THINK I might have put the rollover check valve on wrong direction (backwards)...i guessed when reinstalling (FYI - this is 1995 456 gt -- old style red/white in-line check valve that is between two rubber hoses connecting to the ball-valve canister in upper corner of driver's rear fender well). COULD A WRONG DIRECTION INSTALLED check/rollover valve be causing the heavy gas odor? Thank you so much. Again, great forum - I praise the resource and try to get as many to join as possible. -wpe
Not having performed this repair before, I don’t have any guidance other than pointing to the obvious fact that if you have gas smell only when full probably indicates that something isn’t right somewhere... fuel vapors (which is perhaps what you’re smelling) are highly flammable, so be careful with that one! Good luck! Ruben
