So the factory/dealer detail on the motor on my new 812 is pretty phenomenal. Notably, the black plastic pieces have a wonderful luster I think is apparent in the photo.

Any one know what product the dealer or factory uses to get this finish?

What I like is the matte finish texture, staying power (after hot) and no odor. I'm also curious how it will hold up over time.

The crinkle paint paint too, what do you guys do to maintain it?

Short of some hermetic seal, I almost don't want to drive it! Alas, that won't ever do -- taking the wife to Carmel for the anniversary this weekend. . .

    Any input appreciated.

Silicone spray perhaps. As far as the wrinkle finish paint, as I remember, I just used a mild surface cleaner. I have a bunch of the old organic arm & hammer essentials yellow cleaner / degreaser that I use on the rims and brakes; it's mild and works well on the engine compartment. Spray it on, clean with a tooth brush, then wipe off.

No idea but that definitely looks shinier than mine, so someone has taken something to it.

Please inquire with the dealer as to what product they use. Definitely not from factory, my 488 had water spots everywhere in the engine comp.

Interesting. Mine was similar. Assumed it just came like that. But you are right- must have been treated with something. I will ask my dealer.

Thanks Mike, excellent advice! This is how our morning started today on the Big Sur coastline.

I'm going to have a look at my engine bay. Your's is very nice.

It was a great day for a drive! I happen to be down here as well, on Cannery row, but without the ol' mare this time, sadly.

Road trip tip: Take Hwy. 68 out to River Rd. (G17) and turn right. I was given the tip when I was here with my 812 several months ago.
