That is the worst I have ever seen also, even from the 70-80's. What no scrub solutions do car washes use to remove them? Might be easier on paint than scrubbing and soaking. They use some type of pre wash spray.
I use hot water to loosen them up. Makes it easier to flick them off too. Pam can be used before heading out to make cleaning easier.
I'd say in the case of that poor Mercedes, a pressure washer with a mild soap. They were caked on an inch-plus thick. They used to have, maybe they still do, high pressure washers set up near the exits of truck weigh stations and some rest ares off the Interstates where high powered water would spray on the trucks and cars. That makes it a lot easier and just turn on the wipers. BHW
They don't. I was there last weekend. The outdoor bartenders were being driven crazy by them. The one I chatted up told me he was tossing drinks out left and right, even had to toss a couple bottles of tequila (for some unknown reason seems to be the favorite of love bugs) as they had flung themselves to a drunken death down the pour spout. I spray myself with deet before I go out to cut the grass. It keeps them off me. I also kept my mouth shut, a rarity for Floridians who all seem to be mouth breathers, in order to keep from snacking on them while outside. They're still out there. This is the longest LB season that I remember, and that's going back to 1977.
I need to drive from the panhandle to SoFla, right through the worst love bug area. Are they still around?
I've seen singles here and there a few days ago. But generally speaking, they're done here in Brevard County. I'm driving to Orlando tomorrow so I'll know more then.

Florida is not a place for people with a bug aversion! Or rain aversion. When I moved to Gainesville to go to college, I saw more bugs and rain in the first week there than I had seen my whole life in NYC. Driving a moped during "love bug" season was interesting to say the least. T
Orlando and back via the "Beachline" (Hwy 528) incurred at least 7 impacts with Love Bugs (probably paired). So, not 100% over yet. Maybe carry some of Griot's Bug and Smudge Remover with you?
